Longtime friends from Shawnee killed in mid-Missouri car wreck

By BENITA Y. WILLIAMS

Matthew Beseau and Trent Hearn had been friends since grade school.

On Labor Day weekend the two Shawnee residents, both 21, died in a car wreck on their way to a convenience store while on vacation near Lake of the Ozarks.

Roberta Hearn said her son, Beseau and two other friends had been visiting the Hearns’ lake house in Sunrise Beach. The accident occurred about 4:20 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Beseau was driving a Honda Civic that struck a tree near a lake roadway north of Missouri M. Beseau and Hearn were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither was wearing a seat belt, patrolmen said.

On Tuesday the families planned funerals for their sons at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5832 King St.

Hearn and Beseau met while attending St. Joseph Grade School. They remained friends despite attending different high schools. Beseau graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School; Hearn was a graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.

This year Hearn graduated with a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications management from DeVry University. He was employed as a computer network technician for Everest Communications.

Services for Hearn will be at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Beseau attended Johnson County Community College and was employed at the Capitol Federal Savings branch at 5700 Nieman Road.

He is the son of David and Mary Sue Beseau. Beseau leaves two brothers, Chris Beseau and the Rev. Steven Beseau, and a sister, Suzanne Beseau.

Visitation for Beseau begns at 5:30 Thursday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday.
