Guilty: Another pit-bull owner

Kc_pit_bull_1I am not trying to pick on pit bulls or their owners. From AP 4:11 p.m.:

  • SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) — A dog owner was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Thursday for allowing her pit bulls to run loose and kill an 82-year-old woman.
  • Deanna Large, 37, was found guilty in the death of Dorothy Sullivan, who was attacked March 8 by three pit bulls while she took her shih tzu for a walk.

A recent post, Was pit bull attack child abuse?, drew some comments, mostly from pit-bull owners.

(I've been meaning to get some pepper-spray or something. I walk my 65lb collie-chow baobao (Chinese for little treasure)  every night, leashed of course, and she's no good with other dogs. Neighbor dog Nugget one night came running out and literally jumped in baobao's mouth. It was all I could do to get 'em apart. Nugget was unhurt. My biggest fear is a big dog, unleashed, that I can't separate from baobao.)

Pictured: Pink, a pit bull featured in The Star earlier this year for adoption.

I use to go to Shawnee Park to the off leash area to walk my dog. I have a little 5 pound papillon. Whenever I would see a larger dog coming toward mine I would pick him up. On two separate ocassions, I was jumped by pit bulls trying to get at Charley. Neither of the pits had muzzles on. Those dogs scared me enough that I no longer take my dog to the park. I use to have a pit bull when I was a child and loved the dog dearly. I know those dogs love people, but they don't like other dogs. I don't know whether or not pit bull owners need to be responsible for who goes where, but I do know that I need to be responsible for my own safety as well as that of my little dog, so I just don't take him to the park anymore. I thought they were not allowed in Overland Park but guess I was wrong. Now I need to check out my neighborhood just to be safe.

i cant belive this shit about pitbulls attacking everyone like its a conspiracey against humans... i have four wonderful pits and they wouldnt harm a fly. although i raise my babys with love and devotion i cannot say that for others. everyone wants to kill off this breed of animal and not punish the owners for mistreating there "pets". everyone has a pitbull attack story yeah yeah lets fill every ones head up with shit, but if you came to my house you would be as welcome as a new born in a hospital. as far as all these attacks, chihuahuas attack people they dont know lets EUTHANIZE them all or how about a shi-tzu's yeah lets terminate them cause there ugly and look like gremlins and can be a little mean cause there territorial. or i know a yorkie they bark alot and make all sorts of noise lets kill them too... dont punish the breed cause of looks, sound, or being protective cause ALL DOGS/ALL BREEDS/ALL SPECIES have those qualities.... not just mine
