KC homicide #1: Jose L. Madrigal, 39

A new year, a new count. From Kansas City police Sunday, 4:48 p.m.:

• On Sunday January 1, 2006 at about 2:30am, KCMO Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 16th and Topping on a man laying in the street. On arrival officers made contact with the victim Jose L. Madrigal, Hispanic male, 03/03/1966 of KCMO, who was lying in the street suffering from a traumatic head injury. MAST ambulance was called to the scene and transported Mr. Madrigal to the hospital where he died from his injury several hours later.
• This incident is being investigated as a homicide and detectives advised that they have several suspects in custody. More information will be released as it becomes available.
• This is the first homicide of 2006 in KCMO.
