Sexual assault case questioned

Here's someone who cared enough about the Arena football players didn't do it story to email me:

• Just as Laura Crews, the Kentucky woman who earlier this year filed false rape charges leading to a costly helicopter search in the I-29 area of the airport and wasted police man-hours was made to compensate for the expenses, this Johnson County woman also should be held accountable and repay KCPD for wasted time spent on this investigation.
• This story sounded fishy from the start. What reputable woman leaves a friend at 2 a.m. to go "party" with a group of strange men, professional Arena football players, in their hotel room? Truth be told, her actions probably resulted because she wasn't compensated according to her expectations.

I can't agree. Unlike Laura Crews, something apparently actually happened to this woman. From Star reporter Christine Vendel's story:

• The woman said one of the local men grabbed her arms while the other put his hands down her pants. She said she struggled with them and fled the room. She said she believed the attack lasted a minute or so and that no one else was in the room at the time.

Aren't police right to just drop this case, as the sobered-up lady asked?

What is sad about this is that the ball players were named as suspects and the bus was halted before it left town. Hotel rooms were sealed off and searched. Players were questioned and DNA samples obtained. This was no mere "mistake" or "misidentification". This needs to be checked into. She wasted valuable time and people who were not the suspects were detained. In short she needs to answer.

Hate to disagree folks, but there are a multitude of reasons victims drop charges against people. People should be prosecuted for intentionally making false police reports, but the second the police start prosecuting people just because they drop charges, the already low crime reporting rate drops even lower.

I believe that in this case (I think all cases need to be evaluated on a case by case basis) it would cost more to prosecute and tie up the court from addressing more serious offenses.
I myself to believe something happened. As far as the girl leaving to go party, younger people do some strange things and the lure of them being football players had to add to it. I beg to differ. With all due respect, she did do something the guys didn't do. She got into a car with guys she didn't know after all had been drinking. Something may have happened that was wrong. I don't know. Maybe she wanted to be with one guy and the rest thought it was a free ticket and that was what set it off. I have a different take on the events. She dropped the charges immediately after speaking to their attorney. That's when she changed her story. I think they made her an offer to drop the charges. Maybe it all really did happen as she originally stated, or maybe she planned it that way from the start or maybe both happened. But whether they raped her or not, I think money made everything go away.

Sex for money. That may have been her original intent. That is the intent of many women these days. If not money then just attention. Did anyone see her dancing on the pole at th Empire Room? I sure it was quite a scene.

DNA is a good witness. Did she ever say no? Men of the celebrity of these players should know that no means no and that their reputation and future could depend on backing off. I think the police should release the results of DNA testing. If true that she did have intercourse with them the question comes back to did she say yes or no. If she did say yes, she should admit it and settle the issue. If she said no, then the players should be prosecuted, after all it is a crime. It takes a jury to decide who is telling the truth. Even then I am not sure the issue would be settled.
