New KS firm: Greeting cards for inmates
Brenda Guiden says her business is doing great:
- WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Brenda Guiden was having trouble last fall finding greeting cards for her two brothers.
- “I didn’t find anything appropriate, as far as what I wanted to say,” Guiden said. “They said a little bit, but they really didn’t touch home the way I wanted them to.”
- That was when it occurred to her to start her own company, Prison Expressions, which offers greeting cards for prisoners, their friends and families.
- Story
The cards at www.prisonexpressions.com (sample above) go for $5 each.

This is such a great story! You never know what could become a successful business! It's so entertaining.

it is about time somebody think of the families of inmates. with so many incarcerated, we need to think of the imprisoned.

Why do cons even have the privilege of receiving mail. They should all be totally confined for their entire sentence. No reading or TV of music.

Inmates are humans who need love, support and forgiveness. Send a card to an inmate. Let them know that we welcome them back when they return.

i need to send a con a card but i did not see the one that expressed the right message for our circumstance. please write this on up:
dear daddy,
we are really hurting since you got caught up in drugs and turned to armed robbery to get your fix. so all i want for xmas this year is for you to get shanked so that we can start collecting your ssi benefits!
Posted by: | Monday, March 06, 2006 at 08:41 PM
That last one is so disgusting. It shows what a miserable human you are. Families suffer.

walter your so lost, what about vitims who sends them sympathy cards for being assualted, killed or robbed, kidnapped,or even raped tell me who
Posted by: | Monday, March 06, 2006 at 11:22 PM
I didnt see any cards for that new inmate that just got that special welcome from Bubba. Something like "What happens in prison, stays in prison" or maybe "sorry you forgot to take your soap on a rope to the shower, but hey maybe now you know how your victim felt" I dont know just a thought.

Have respect for other human beings. INmates are people too. They have families, children, and feelings. Please.
Posted by: Walter | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 07:47 AM
Walter's right. Inmates are human beings with families and children. Of course, if they really cared about their families and their children, they probably wouldn't have committed a crime that landed them in jail. Toby's parents seem like really decent people. Chalk them down as two more victims of her incredible selishness and stupidity.

Not all inmates are human and not all are welcomed back into society. They should be thankful that they aren't being treated the way they treated others.
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 08:37 AM
Talk about stupidity....selishness...don’t you mean selfishness.....
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 09:26 AM
WOW! Bet nobody on this post has ever broken a law - maybe driven after a few to many, wrote a check before the funds were in the account, exceeded the speed limit! Did not know there were so many saints walking the streets.

I love it! Someone said, "it's about time someone thought of inmates families."
This was started to profit off this. Otherwise the cards would not be selling for $5.00 a card. You can get a blank one for .99 and write your own greeting.
Remember what P.T. Barnum said.

Speeding is one thing, rape and murder is another.
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 09:57 AM
so just a thought, but what about the innocent guys in prison? or is everyone always guilty no matter what the circumstances are?
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 10:25 AM
I hope Toby goes to PRISON.

Couldn't find anything that said: "I love you," or "I miss you" ? This business is a joke. 99 cents and "Welcome to the greatest show on earth!"
We should speed the death penalty process. No one would need to buy these ridiculous cards that express "love, support, or forgiveness," for idiots who rape, steal, or even kill their fellow human beings.
Posted by: Citizen | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 01:01 PM
so people who rape and steal should be put to death? hope you never did any of the above!!!
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 01:17 PM
WOW!
Guess I’m walking amongst either saints are hypocrites. You do realize that not all inmates are guilty and that some were done in defense. But, I guess that wont be happening to any of you………..

As for somebody that has a loved one locked up - I think the cards are a little tacky. But not as tacky as some of the stupid comments that people make. People don't only go to jail for murder and rape. Good thing they don't lock up idiots, because several on this post would be receiving a $5 card. No matter what the crime if you have enough money and a good lawyer you can buy your way out.

Most 'criminals' are drug addicts who need help not execution. Speeding can kill innocent children and adults, but if you have fun speeding then no problem, you have avoided it. Maybe next time you will not be so lucky, then see how you feel about crime and speeding is no big deal..how about drunk drivers...who is more dangerous> a drunk driver or a rapist.
think about it jerks.
Posted by: Greg M | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 02:17 PM
Both the rapist and drunk driver should be in jail.
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 02:49 PM
Burn 'em all...
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 03:13 PM
Are you kidding asking whether a drunk driver or a rapist is more dangerous? Yes a drunk driver can involuntarily kill, but a rapist knowingly commits the crime. I understand that drunk driving is a crime and people who do so should be punished, but these two crimes are so different.
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 05:37 PM
Hang on. The person who thought these cards up has two brothers, a nephew, a brother-in-law and a friend all on the inside. And now she's charging $5 for a card. Do you think fraudulent, criminal behaviour runs in the family?
Posted by: Sarge | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 06:30 PM
So a drunk driver accidently kills. that means he or she accidently drank him or herself in to drunkenness. some accident. their victims are maimed or killed. same as rapists. they are the same. if you drink and drive, you are as bad as a rapist.

you want to base your comments more accurate then try to work in jail or prison for a while you,ll sure change your tune then I know this for a fact 21 years of experience. that,s why kansas has the highest turnover rate for employees in the U.S.A. If it a easy job then why don,t you inmate lover work there.I do remember the most scary part of this thread these liberals vote that keeps me wake at night.
Posted by: | Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 11:16 PM
what keeps me awake is the fact that conservative people like you who either can't use a keyboard properly or can't use the english language properly are allowed to vote.

I find it ironic that inmates' families are being asked to pay five bucks a card. The only way inmates can have telephone contact with their families is through collect calls. Phone cards are not allowed. It seems the families are being punished financially for the inmates' deeds.

Walter, you asked why prisoners even deserve to get greeting cards. Get a clue: these people, most of them, are going to get out someday. Do you want to treat them like animals and have them get out and be worse or sociopaths when they get out, or would you like to let them at least a small grip on humanity? I know what I chose, maybe you'd rather have the animals getting out. And don't say keep them all in prison for ever, for one thing, we don't have the resources financially to do that. And didn't you ever do anything wrong and get a second chance?

"dear daddy,
we are really hurting since you got caught up in drugs and turned to armed robbery to get your fix. so all i want for xmas this year is for you to get shanked so that we can start collecting your ssi benefits!"
JUDGING BY THE FACT YOU DIDN'T SIGN YOUR NAME I TAKE THAT TO MEAN YOU KNOW YOU LOOK LIKE A FOOL WHEN YOU WRITE THIS CRAP.

Dearest "r" either you are an idiot or your stupid is showing, check it out!
