DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A stripper who says she was raped by three Duke University lacrosse players during a party also accused three men of raping her when she was a teenager, according to a complaint filed a decade ago. In the 1996 report, the woman claims she was raped three years earlier, at age 14. None of the men named in the report were ever charged with sexual assault, said authorities in nearby Granville County, but they didn't have details why.

I believe COJ put it best when he identifies women like this ... They can't stay out of trouble because of their serial behavior. However, it does not surprise me that at 14 she claimed rape. Almost every women I know has such a claim.

I find it very unusual that a woman who survived multiple rapes would seek her livelihood as a stripper.
Someone who works as a stripper, a hooker, or other sex-oriented profession drastically increases her risk of victimization. At some point, such a woman has to take some responsibility for her own participation in being victimized.

Biggin-
I am not criticizing your veiws on the subject.I agree with you and Champ on THIS story, however; things of this nature do happen to girls/women all across the country everyday, so please don't undermine EVERY person who claims rape, because it does happen......though not to EVERYBODY who claims it.

Well said Vib

Vib- I understand what you are saying, but you would be surprised what an early sexual trauma can do to both men and women. A large percentage of people who were sexually assaulted, particularly when they were young, go on the lead less than idea lifestyles. They often get involved in heavy drug use, the sex industry and crime. This applies to both males and females. Obviously this is not true in all cases, but you would be surprised the impact a sexual trauma can have on a person.

Openmind-
You have got a point...but....someone who has been victimized in such a way that includes rape needs help psycologically by a trained professional so that they do not go on to live their lives as you have explained in your post. I believe this is the responsiblity of the victims parents, or if they are of age it is their own responsiblity to get some help.
Posted by: Theresa M | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:07 AM
I agree wholeheartedly....but that costs $$$$. Also, a lot of "trained" professionals are either stuck in the 1950's or dish out pills like wallgreens. That being said, I have worked with some amazing psychologists who truly work miracles.
Posted by: openmind | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:18 AM
And I agree with you, too. It does cost a lot of $$$$ to see a therapist but what parents need to relize is that money can be replaced but the well-being of your child's future is the most important thing, and that can never be replaced. There is government supported agency's that fit the bill for these victims. Though, I'll admit....sometimes they aren't all they are cracked up to be...they (the parents/victim) should at least give it a try before thinking that it isn't going to do them any good. It could save a lot of people a lot more pain (i.e. basketball players, football players, lacrosse players and even strippers).

Sounds like she finds herself in the company of multiple men on several occasions. Those darn men just need to leave this poor innocent girl alone!!! Can't a girl strip, dance, get high at an all male party where she is getting paid & just be left alone!!!
Posted by: Biggin | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:41 AM
Wolf? Wolf? Wolf? Why won't anyone believe her or the numerous others who are crying in this game? The victims are the innocent males with their names "splattered" all over the media. Level the playing field and report ALL involved. The accuser, the accused. The accuser will be revealed sooner or later, how else can she get her book deal or movie deal!

Well, if at first you dont succeed, Try and Try again....
Posted by: A | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 01:31 PM
The effort that goes into this try try try try try try again game is enormous. If these females would extend a similar effort in a legitimate career they would get all they desire, but they want it easy. They want the big "lottery win". However, the tickets to play this lottery is the showing & exploitation of their bodies to any & all men that can bring in the "grand prize".
Posted by: Biggin | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 01:50 PM
Some women want it easy, but don't lump us all in that category. I paid for 90% of my own college education with legitimate work and occasional scholarships. I steadily work now in a legitimate job. So not all women take that other route.

lr, realize that the women that do this muddy up the water for the good gals. Men are sceptical of all women at first to ensure they are not getting mixed up with a bad one. My wife has friends that complain about being single. My wife will say we have some friends that we could introduce you to. First question out of their mouths, what does he do?. These friends are eternaly single. Some up into there late 30's holding out for the big one.

I actually know of quite a few women who were raped multiple times. You would think that one would be safer after being raped, but that's not how a lot of these women are thinking.
Rape is never a woman's fault, BUT a lot of women who are raped multiple times routinely put themselves in sketchy situations (by doing drugs, getting drunk and passing out, etc.). That doesn't excuse the fact that they were raped, however. (I don't know about this case, she may be making it up, but who knows?)

This stripper lady is obviously lying about the lacrosse party and is trying to get paid off of this whole thing. There is no evidence connecting any Duke players to an assault except the testimony of a stripper with a criminal past. I hope she gets put in jail for wasting everyone's time and money.

Fonzi. It would be nice to see that, but there is a double standard applied to men & women in terms of justice being served. Women use all types of excuses when they are caught lying. For instance, I was scared & didn't know what else to do. I was abused in the past & was afraid it might happen again. So I made up the story. In the mean time resources & media hype all directed at the inncoent man!!!!!

Every woman is entitled to Brad Pitt, Biggin, didn't you know that?
Posted by: Manny | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 05:34 PM
Brad Pitt is a loser, enough said on that topic
Posted by: Theresa M | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 06:03 PM
Greg, could you verify or dispell the claim that this woman actually worked for an "Escort Service" and not a "Strip" service? If so, then it should be clear that she showed up to this party as a paid prostitute (make no illusions, an "Escort" is nothing more than a prostitute), and was probably upset that she didn't get the payment she was expecting.
I have heard this from several radio sources, but have not seen it confirmed in print yet.
(Hi W! - Big assignment. This is an out-of-town case with national press crawling all over it. My odds of getting into it are slim. Thanks for the request, though. Greg Reeves)

Why do elephants wear springs on their feet?
So they can jump up in trees and rape monkeys.
Posted by: Raamone | Friday, April 28, 2006 at 08:14 PM
First of all, it is not unusual in the slightest (in the real world, that is, and not in some of your "ideal worlds") that a woman abused sexually at an early age would seek out a career in the sex industry. (Why? "The mind, mind has mountains, / Cliffs of fall frightful, sheer, / No-man-fathom'd. Hold them cheap may / Who n'er hung there," as Gerard Manley Hopkins wrote. In other words: well, you can't walk in someone else's shoes, but you can read all kinds of studies.) But--and while I scanned hurriedly I believe I did not see this listed in the posts once--two words hang over this case like grey twists of fog over a lake at twilight: Tawana Brawley. Go on. Google it.

Manny, Thanks for the update. Some of my wife's friends are pretty & talented. However they slut out to the highest bidder. However, these men know the game 7 leave them high & dry. Literally.

Guess what she is doing tonight? History has a way of repeating itself. When we are 14, or 14 hours ago, 14 seconds ago, or maybe 14 days ago. little Dukey we know what you are doing tonight.

Biggin, whats the difference between the first words out of a womans mouth and the first words out of a mans mouth? I know most men would ask "Is she hot?"
Posted by: openmind | Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 10:27 AM
The first words outta my mouth would be, "Does she have full blown aids?"
Posted by: Raamone | Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 01:06 PM
The odds of being raped, twice in 10 years, by THREE men each time, who held you down and raped you = not very high.
Maybe she was imagining or making up both of them. Or maybe the first one happened and the second one didn't. The most improbable scenario of all, is that she lied about the first 3-man gang rape and is telling the truth now about a 3-man gang rape. Thus the defense is going to have to do everything it can to bring evidence of the first report to the jury, and try to convince them the first report of an almost identical crime was false.
