Jason:
Ya know, I don't associate with criminals as a rule, so I don't have any specific names of folks of whom I know that are out walking around...I would just say that as a general rule, the criminal justice system has a habit of letting folks out on BAIL (not just out of jail as a free person) if they are not a flight risk and they don't pose harm to themselves or others. What she did was bad, no doubt...allowing a convicted murderer to once again roam the countryside is not putting her in line for the Nobel Peace Prize, but still, there are worse crimes out there.
Just a quick Google news search of the string "out on bail" brings up some of the following:
Pete Doherty - Out on bail for suspicion of drug possession
Daniel Grant - State trooper who is accused of planting drugs on a woman and then raped her out on bail
Susan McDade - A home health care worker who was charged raping her disabled, 17 year old client out on bail
Rodney Muray - Former fire chief accused of felony stalking his former girlfriend. His bail was reduced from 1.5 million to 200,000. The article doesn't say whether or not he is actually out on bail, but my guess is that he is.
Mark Sanchez - USC Quarterback, accused of sexually assaulting a female student out on bail
Anyway, you get the point. Are these crimes worse than Ms. Young's? I honestly cannot say...I think that the argument can be made that they are, but who I am to judge. Sexual assault, especially, is a pretty serious crime.

Vib - your friend probably told you there is a high turn over rate for Prison nurses because so many of them fall in love with an offender or get caught delivering "care packages". You are so right that the prisoners have time on their hands to dream up schemes - there are alot of receivers of welfare that have time to dream up schemes - not only limited to prisoners. If people wanted to work then we would not be hearing the argument "we do jobs lazy americans dont want". My credit card number was stolen this week and used to make $2,000 of online purchases before the bank company decided it was fraud. Somehow I don't think that was a prisoner; must have been a "free" person on the internet getting my card number.

sorry ,that i dont understand why they call john manard a killer? he did not kill anybody........
Posted by: david | Saturday, April 29, 2006 at 08:46 AM
He is called a killer because he was committing a crime against a guy and the guy ended up dead. If he wasn't involved, he wouldn't be in jail would he? Maybe he didn't actually do the killing but he is somewhat responsible just because of his involvement. A guy is dead, he is a killer.

Besides that, I bet if you were a member of the dead guys family, they would consider manard a killer. I doubt that man was asking for his car to be jacked. Manard was doing a stupid thing, an innocent guy ended up dead because of it, ask his wife or mom if manard is a killer. Guess what their answer would probably be.

this is for pam, your right nicely said, just want to let you know that felony murder law came from england and they stop that law in 1957. please look at brandon hein case from california and tell me if that is fair. please let me know what you think, bye

If Brandon Hein was not involved with the stabbing and was just a bystander, he was obviously unjustly convicted. Not the case with maynard. He was as much a part of the car jacking as the other guy that did the shooting. That is the difference.

Gotcha,thanks for pam

John Maynard is considered a killer, as is correctly described above, because he was actively part of a carjacking where the victim was killed by the other person involved in the carjacking.
How ironic it would have been had John Maynard shot back at the police while they were being chased by the police in the pickup and killed one of them... or if a police car involved in the chase flipped and an officer was killed.
Fortunately the guns Toby provided were at the cabin at the time, and no officer was injured. But what if the police had staged a raid on the cabin, and Maynard had grabbed a gun, started shooting to "protect" himself and his lover, and killed a police officer?
Then Toby would be guilty of murder in the same way that Maynard was. She would have been highly responsible, since she busted the guy out and supplied the gun used in the killing-- even if she was hiding under a bed at the time of the shooting.

to you all. wrong. we know jonhn . he is not charles manson. dont treat him like that. he was 17 . dont forget it.
Posted by: david | Wednesday, May 03, 2006 at 08:15 AM
Being 17 isn't an excuse for breaking the law. At 17 you still know what you are doing. At 17 is car jacking right? At 17 is being associated with trash who carry guns to break laws right? I don't think so. Poor john. He was only 17 so excuse him for being STUPID. Maybe he wasn't a psychopath like Charles Manson. No one is accusing him of that. He made a stupid mistake and must pay for it even though he was only 17.

a mind of a kid thats 17 is different then a man of 25. and yes i agree they should be punished, 10 years in that awfull prison.okay let him out in 5 years, because he was such a good boy in that awfull prison.and yes he is still a boy. people dont grow up in there.let him out for good behavior, doesnt that count.so add 18months for this mistake. but thanks for this escape we know that there are children in prisons, with to much time.we have to face it, there are worse in with less time.
