The Scam: Phony "Bank of America" emails
The Targets: Email users, not just BoA
The Hook:
This is a classic "phishing" scam in which scammers try to steal your personal information by sending you warnings purporting to be from a major bank. These emails, like this one, can look quite sophisticated. But I got two at the same time this week, with the subject: "Transcation failed" (yes, with the typo)
How to avoid being victimized: Trust your instincts; be very suspicious of email requests for personal information. Read Microsoft's detailed, very consumer-friendly brief on phishing.
