Reader aqua requests this update about the crash Friday in which an (allegedly) beer-swilling, speeding driver flew into an intersection and killed a young Independence couple.
New charges in fatal crash
Authorities on Monday boosted the charges against a 23-year-old man accused of drunken driving and causing a weekend accident that killed a young, recently engaged couple.
If convicted, Jonathan G. Edwards of Sugar Creek could face up to 15 years in prison on each of two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of Brandon Hankins and Crystal Blessing. A lower class of involuntary manslaughter charges had been filed over the weekend. Those charges carried a maximum penalty of seven years in prison.
