State prison inmate murders happen less than once a week in this country. That's down more than 90% since 1980, the feds report.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) _ A prison inmate
serving time for sex assult, kidnapping, burglary, kidnapping and use
of a deadly weapon died at Ely State Prison after being assaulted by
another prisoner, Nevada state prison officials said.

Beltran, 33, suffered critical chest wounds in the Thursday attack, and
was pronounced dead at the prison. His assailant was not identified.
Beltran stood trial in May 2005 and was sentenced to prison last January.
