From Kansas City police 4:10 p.m.:
- The man who was shot by a Roeland Park, KS police officer has been identified as Anthony T. Sesto, white/male, 09/03/1960. Mr. Sesto has an extensive criminal history and had an outstanding warrant from the city of Olathe, Kansas at the time of his arrest.
After the vehicle stopped, Sesto fled on foot to the rear of a house near 51st and Garfield to Euclid. The officer ordered the man to stop. As the man neared the fence in the rear of the residence, he began reaching toward the inside of his coat and his waistband area. The officer told the man to show his hands. The man turned suddenly toward the officer and the officer fired one shot striking the man. After being shot, the man jumped over a fence and tried to flee from the officer again. After the man jumped the fence, the officer saw the man throw something that was later determined to be a crack pipe. Kansas City officers responded to the scene after the shooting and took the man into custody. The man is expected to recover.
