No DUI for Zamboni driver

A Zamboni driver, who was charged with DUI for drunk-driving on an ice rink, has won his fight to have his license revocation overturned. The judge says a Zamboni technically isn't a motor vehicle because it can't be operated on a road and can't carry passengers.

From the story: Peragallo, 64, testified at his trial that he did drink beer and vodka, but not until after he had groomed the ice. However, he told police he had a shot of Sambuca with his breakfast coffee and two Valium-pills before work.

this is what happens when you take Jesus out of zambonis.

Now if he was driving the Zamboni in a Taco Bell drive-through at 2am, I would think the charges would stick...

Useful commentary as always, Stinky.

This case is a win for functional alcoholics everywhere, but this guy needs some help. You know it's a good day when you're starting off with Sambucca and Valium for breakfast.

and a little beer for lunch followed by vodka for supper, creighton. ;)

Thanks Creighton. I try and add a certain je ne sais quois to the discussion here.

Stinky..you're using ten dollar words here..whats up?

Unless he drives his Zamboni into a market full of people...

...or somehow gets it out on the road and is stopped at a checkpoint...

...let the poor SOB kill himself slowly in peace...

I don't care if people want to stay high all day long as long as their actions don't affect others in any way...

...I'm sure the ice was fine...

Hahah... i ain't as dum as u tink i is

Yeah right. A 64 year old person on valium...for breakfast??? Drug test, drug test!!! Oh, I forgot, it's legal if you have a prescription....

that is correct, it is legal, so it shouldn't even be an issue.

Those ain't ten dollar words, they's Frenchie.

Sorry, hit the post button twice.

Not near as dangerous as the slugbrains driving around jabbering on cell phones.

Please Stinky -you have dug that comment into the ground-move on

I bet if he'd killed someone then the Zamboni would have counted as a motor vehicle.

Should he be fired? Sure. Should he be prosecuted for DUI? No way. He was guilty of operating machinery at work under the influence, but not of operating a motor vehicle on a roadway.

Thank goodness for the protection of civil liberties! I think to celebrate I'll put on my shorts, black socks and sandals, pop a beer and hop onto the lawn tractor...
