"I would rather have lost the house than the skates"

This story broke my heart ... Somebody stole ice skates that belong to a mentally retarded 26-year-old who competes in the Special Olympics. The skates, which were in a bag with a unicorn on it, were signed by Kristi Yamaguchi and Michael Weiss, and worse, the woman won't be able to practice until she gets replacements. (They cost about $300 to $500.)

From her mother:

"I think this has been the worst thing to happen to me in my life - the skates being stolen," said Debi Peelen, who works two jobs to pay for the lessons.

"Nothing is worse than this. Not the car. Not my divorce. Not almost losing this house. I would rather have lost the house than the skates."
