Missouri's prison population is shrinking

Missouri has seen its prison population drop by 3 percent, the biggest percentage change among the 50 states, the Post-Dispatch reports. One reason why? The state is starting to send more parolees to "supervision centers" -- a type of residential facility that works with offenders to get them ready to reenter society.

Missouri has two such facilities, but five others are planned, including one in Kansas City.
