KCPD investigates homicide at 12th Street and I-35
From KCPD: Saturday morning at approximately 2am, KCMO police were called to 9th and Mulberry Street in regard to the sound of gunshots. On 12th St. near I-35 officers located two black male shooting victims inside a green Mercedes.
The driver was pronounced dead and the passenger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. A witness stated that a dark colored vehicle was observed in the area at the time of the shooting. There are no suspects in custody and detectives ask that anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

I live in this area. The Quality Hill area. In recent months, the place has gone completely into the toilet. It is now entirely low-income housing. Everyone I know who has lived here for a while is leaving when their leases are up.
The area is overrun with homeless people, drunks sitting on porches, and a lot of shady activity. In the park, Case Park, it's a slew of illegal activity done with total impunity.
I've been walking through the park and watched drug deals go down, people hitting crack pipes in their cars, and fights.
This is the SECOND murder in as many weeks. The last was someone who got killed just a few blocks from where these guys were shot. There's no way KCPD is ever going to find out who killed either of these people.
It used to be really nice. It used to be a nice quiet area with a lot of young people who were friendly and young families. Now you don't even feel safe out after dark.
There's been a huge increase in street racing, car stereo blaring at all hours of the night, car breakins, etc...
Yeah there's security guards in the area, but that's not enough. I call the police about stuff, but when it takes 40 minutes to an hour before anyone comes, what's the point? Like the criminals are going to hang around for 40 minutes after they smashed up a car or beat someone up? Hardly.
We can't even keep our windows open at night because of all the shady people staring into them.
I went and bought a gun, but I'd rather just move somewhere else where I don't need to keep a gun in the house to stay safe.

Maybe KCPD should reduce their patrols at Penn Valley Park. They are there nightly discouraging the gays from using the park. They could instead patrol Case Park and handle the real crime. Call Captain Greenwell at 234-5530 and let her know that the people yopu see in Quality Hill are gay and I'm sure she will send officers there every night. The city will even put up no stopping and standing signs from 10pm to 5 am like they have at Penn Valley Park.

The reason why KCMOPD does not assign officers to patrol the park instead to run radar traps, is because criminals do not generate revenue like speeders . Besides, haven't you heard that Chief Corwin and Mayor Funkhouser will not enforce the homeless and panhandler ordinances because they believe this law to be unconstitutional ?? Neither of these officials care about protecting the public.
