Abortion opponents have started up a petition to have a grand jury investigate Planned Parenthood of Overland Park. They want to see if Parenthood is obeying the laws on late-term abortion, reporting child abuse and not trafficking in fetal tissue. Diane Carroll's got a story about the situation here.
Kansas is one of the few states in the nation where the public can call a grand jury via petition. In Wichita, abortion opponents have launched a similar investigation against George Tiller. And Johnson County just got done with a grand jury that indicted four local shops for obscenity. Snip:
(Tim) Golba, a former state director of Kansans for Life, said abortion opponents got excited about convening a grand jury after watching an anti-pornography group convene the obscenity jury in Johnson County during the summer.

hehe, this should be entertaining. The Eugenics people will be throwing themselves off 2 story buildings.

Guess I should have listened when they told me not to move into Kansas.
What a bunch of craziness.

I guess this is why the JOCO commission voted to ask for another sales tax for law enforcement. Must be expensive sitting all these grand juries.

I want to convene a grand jury to see if these porno/prolife idiots are abusing the grand jury privelege.
Oh, and isn't someone who is PRO-LIFE acutally like PORNO? Thats where it all begins!

I want to help these crazy's in JOCO. Since I am sure thease are the same folks who demand these juries are also the same guys "cruising" KCMO parks.
I will post the license plate number & make of vehicle for all to see.
JOCO tag's are the most plentiful.

I don't see how any of this will affect the majority of citizens in OP. I just hope I'm not selected to participate, waste of time...
Posted by: Will | Wednesday, October 03, 2007 at 11:11 AM
I do not support "pre-birth abortion", however, there are a number of folks that would be ideal candidates for "retroactive abortion", such as planned parenthood members....

Just a bunch of Pro-lifers trying to disrupt things again. they try to get around privacy laws, by saying they are protecting the young. Isn't it a great world we live in, whereas those who are constantly destroying our civil rights always say that they are here to protect us? I want to be protected from these idiots! I love the people in KC, but I am so happy to be away from these midwest nut cases.

As good citizens, we have the right, duty, and obligation to vigorously prosecute flagrant lawbreakers like abortion mills.
Just as one example, Kansas law requires abortion mills to provide adoption counseling, but Planned Parenthood abortion mills reported ZERO referrals for adoption last year. (There's no profit in adoption, like there is in slaughtering babies.)

Have anyof these people who want to shut down places like Planned Parenthood ever actually been to one?
Several years ago, I took a friend of mine to to a planned Parenthood clinic in a different state (so I have no idea how the ones around here work) to get a pregnancy test and check out her options. Her last "boyfriend" was a pathetic loser and refused to even talk to her after she mentioned she may be pregnant.
Those people spent almost an hour and a half telling us about EVERY option available to her should she not want the baby. They only make referals to adoption places at the request of the woman. To do anything else would be an invasion of her privacy. They even made us watch some horribly graphic film about how harsh and gross late term abortions were (I had to watch it too since I was gave her a ride there...even though I was nothing more than her friend). Turns out she wasn't pregnant, so she never had to make that tough decision.
So, to those who say Planned Parenthood is inherently evil...go talk to them before making that call. They gave my friend all the info on every option (including adoption) available to her. The choice was left entirely up to her.

Parkay get in line with the Pope and enter the "mind your own f#$%king business contest". That is unless the two of you want to provide financial support for these so called unborn victims and their mothers. Be happy that some women have the sense to NOT bring UNWANTED kids into the world. And pleeeeeese do not give that lame arguement about how many people want to adopt. That has nothing to do with anything.

Abortions comprise a very small percentage of the services offered by Planned Parenthood. They primarily provide affordable healthcare, birth control, and education, thus leading to FEWER unplanned pregnancies. Our community benefits greatly from their presence here.

Maybe, just maybe the state is making sure they adhere to the laws already.
Any of these idiot petition folks ever think of asking?
I have yet to meet a Anti Abortion zelot who is not certifiable.

"Conversely:

First of all post your name next time.
Second it's not the same thing. We have laws governing the right to medical privacy. Most women I know do not want to give theirs up, so that snoops, like yourself, can see if there are standards being broken at abortion clinics, when there is no hard reason to believe there is in the first place..
They want to go through EVERYBODY'S files, to see if ANYBODY was too young. That means the violation of medical privacy for masses. The end does not outweigh the means.

If you are against abortion, don't have one.

These anti-choice people should have to pay all legal fees. They should be sued bigtime.

I had an experience with this particular clinic last spring.
They are very strict about the 24 hour rule. There is a form which you are given which is dated and timestamped when they give it to you. They will reschedule your procedure if it is less than 24 hours after you are given this form. The form explains all the risks involved with the procedure as well as the alternative options to abortion. Patients are repeatedly offered counseling sessions. Immediately before the procedure, patients meet with both a counselor and the doctor performing the procedure as required by state law. Once again the risks and alternatives are explained. After the procedure, PP makes certain the patient recieves the proper care and follow-up visit.
I did extensive research on the legal issues regarding abortion prior to my visit and I found that the clinic in OP followed the laws religiously.
I can't comment for sure on late-term abortions, but all the literature I recieved from the OP clinic only talked about abortion through 20 weeks or so. According to their website, their primary purpose is "providing abortion services from 4 to 23 weeks gestation."
Their website can be found at http://www.comprehensivehealth.org/index.asp
It's not really worth my time or effort to argue about the morals of abortion. I believe that like gay marriage, abortion is a private moral issue that should be decided within each individual's heart instead of wasting time in the courts.

Why do the pro choice people have such a problem with having laws on abortion. There are laws on everything. You cant get in a car drunk and go speeding and kill a bunch of people and say sorry you can't touch me I have privacy laws. Please someone explain what is wrong with a law that says any under 13 must report the abortion as being a rape. Don't we want 10 year olds being protected against adults preying on kids? Or if someone choose to have an abortion at 9 months to follow the proper restrictions on this. Honestly how can any one be okay with killing a kid at 9 months. If the mother is in danger than deliver it and see waht happens give it a chance how do you kill something that is almost born. How can you use "freedom" "womens rights" to justify that, is that what you are protecting?
Posted by: bmfzo6 | Wednesday, October 03, 2007 at 10:10 PM
If they are going to investigate the abortion providers they should also investigate the adoption providers to make cetain they are following all the laws also. Such as reporting any minor that is pregnant to the District Attorney to investigate for statutory rape. I bet the places that take in unwed mothers don't report the ones that are minors to the authorities. They only follow their anti-abortion zeal, and are not really concerned about the mother. I imagine most of them are not following the laws and reporting what is required.

For the answers to your question see the writings of Margaret Sanger, the celebrated founder of Planned Parenthood.
The following literature will give you a good working knowledge about what these people are all about. Their basic beliefs go well beyond any "mission statement" seen today.
Margaret Sanger - An Autobiography
Margaret Sanger - What Every Girl Should Know
Margaret Sanger - The Eugenics Value of Birth Control Propaganda
Margaret Sanger - The Function of Sterilization
Margaret Sanger - Birth Control and Racial Betterment
Margaret Sanger - A Plan for Peace
Just bear in mind that 99% of the people that support this corporation have absolutely no idea of what they are supporting or why, aside from the talking points they have learned to parrot.

Will 's comment is a death threat and should be taken seriously, as fanatics have murdered--and bragged about murdering--abortion providers. The Kansas City Star should turn his computer information over to the attorney general's office.

Will 's comment is a death threat...Nancy Edwards
You must be reading something I can't see. How does hoping he isn't selected for the Grand Jury equate to a death threat? Maybe a pain in the old Cul De Canard, but lets face it. Most abortion activists get off on that sort of thing. ;-)

Here is what Planned Parenthood says about Margaret Sanger: http://plannedparenthood.org/about-us/who-we-are/margaret-sanger-14115.htm
Clearly, they do not agree with everything she said or stood for, but like they say on their website, "attempts to discredit the family planning movement because its early 20th-century founder was not a perfect model of early 21st-century values is like disavowing the Declaration of Independence because its author, Thomas Jefferson, bought and sold slaves."
