David Klepper and Jason Gertzen have a reaction piece to news that Kansas AG Paul Morrison faces a sexual-harassment complaint tied to an extramarital affair. Morrison's allies are expressing disappointment; his enemies are already asking for his resignation. Prime Buzz has a full statement from the AG.
And Hendricks has a column here. Snip:
First, the Kansas attorney general admits over the weekend that he had an extramarital affair with a female subordinate at the very time he was letting people like me defend his moral character in last year’s campaign.
Then Morrison has the nerve to ask us all to honor his wishes and respect his privacy.
Not going to happen, Paul, nor should it. As far as some of us are concerned, this weekend’s news was a kick in the gut.
Here's the latest AP take. The blogosphere is talking, too, with pieces from In This Moment, Nice Deb, General Blather, Tony's Kansas City and Stay Red Kansas.
The governor says that, if the allegations are true, Morrison should resign, The AP reports:
On Monday, Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius said Morrison should resign if the allegations are proven.
"Certainly, if any of the allegations turn out to be accurate, I think yes," Sebelius said in a brief interview with reporters. "One deals with his conduct as an attorney in the DA's office. The other is as an employer. I think either one should trigger a resignation."

Typical.
Bring back Phillll Kline!!!

I like to see prosecutors face the other end of the stick for awhile. Gives them a chance to reconsider thier convinctions about how our constitutional rights are just a nusiance to thier jobs. I'll be of Paul will be using everyone one of those rights now.

She had an affair for two years and now she wants to say she was sexual harssed? Give me a break. Who is to say he had an affair with this person, maybe it was someone else. The lady is trash, a real woman that decided to have an affair would not tell she would be ashamed of herself but a slut that sleeps around does not care who knows.

Sexual Harrassment? What a joke!!!! How does one compare sexual harrassment with an affair? She got pissed off and decided to cry!!! I believe in Paul Morrison, he has done a great job, and is a very respectable person, and we are not all perfect! Bur it makes me wonder that all of a sudden Mr. Morrison is being accused of something when just recently that goof ball Kline was being investigated by the news media! So it might just be that Kline being the chump that he is, its a possibility that maybe he concocted all of this, being that Morrison was the best man to be Atty Gen.! Kansas!!!

A REAL spouse (whether a man OR a woman)would respect their vows (or the married persons vows) and would not have allowed this to happen in the FIRST place. It takes two to have an affair!

Far as I am concerned, Paul & Phil can poke every woman they meet. Long as they show up at 8AM goto work, I could care less. Seems like Paul makes in in most everyday. Where is Phil?
Posted by: JewwellsP | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 09:34 AM
Yeah....Sounds like Paul was putting in long HARD hours at the office at taxpayer's expense. Why wouldn't he be spending a lot of time there?!? Nice to see the true Paul shining through! They should both resign. They have made a mockery of both offices with their squabbles and questionable ethics.
Posted by: LoL!!! | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 09:45 AM
Thanks for the link, AG gone Wild. It's pretty hard to support Morrison after reading that. If it is half true then he should resign.
This will be interesting to see how it plays out. Here was channel 5 making a big deal about Phill Kline not being at the office. I think having sex at the office is a bit worse.

I'm just amazed at the number of people defending what he did by trying to direct the blame somewhere else. Are there really that many people having affairs that they feel the need to defend those who are caught?

What is going on? Do we now selectively pick which Vows we will honor. If not marriage, then why should I accept you will take tax payers dollars to do a good job. Kline does not work, lies but it is at our expense. It goes to show why we are all taxed so highly. Someone has to pay for the hotels on out of town trips. Someone has to pay for their work when they do not do it. Plane and simple it is thief. I think the real truth is Kline found out about Morrison when Morrison's girlfriend got a abortion. And it all happened right here in River City. Wonder if Paul will appear on John TV, after all the tax payers are paying for his sex?

Morrison is now on the phone to der Schlickmeister seeking advice on how to trash this woman, and "move on". What a laugh riot this whole thing is, the falling Star's poster boy bites the humble pie dust.

Are there really that many people having affairs that they feel the need to defend those who are caught? - jess
No, the ones you hear defending him simply have a vested interest in downplaying it. They made fools of themselves..again...placing trust in someone they knew to be dishonest. They thought they had scored a Coup d'état, but were instead dealt a coup de main when they lured Morrison to the dark side.
They have yet to realize the scope of the situation and don't realize that having sex in PUBLIC places, during WORK hours, at PUBLIC expense is all that is necessary to take him down.
They have little to no knowledge as to what constitutes an EEO complaint, what it entails and what it will lead to. Hell, they don't even realize they are going to get bit by a creature of their own invention.
They don't yet recognize that this man has wrecked any hope for advancing the democrat agenda in the legislature, and the ramifications are likely to affect other democrat office holders as well.
They have no clue that Morrison has now guaranteed Federal scrutiny into not only the Princess Katheen Administration, but the states Judicial system as well, so the legions of democrat appointed judges are going to be throwing him under the bus as soon as the wheels start turning.
All they really see is that Paul Morrison was going to, "Protect mah right to kill teh bebies."

Two people having a hot, steamy affair for over two years, and only when it was ended did she decide it was work-place related sexual harassment? Give me a break! Sounds rather like it was a mutual thing that required willing participation by both parties. Over two years? And they had even talked about getting married? Does not sound like the usual workplace sexual harassment.
Yes!!! What Morrison did was not moral. Let's not forget that what he is accused of doing, his "girl friend" was also cooperating in as well. She, as well as Morrison was "fooling around" in a torid affair. Why isn't anyone here calling for punishment? She was also a public official. Or, since she is nothing more than a tool for Philly Boy, does she get a free pass simply by claiming sexual harassment? How come nobdy is out to hang HER?
"Slick Willy" Clinton had several affairs or dalliances while in office, even lied to the nation about them. Yet, since he is everybody's little darling, his affairs and his lies are his right. Hmmm
The bottom line is that Morrison is effective in office, and that upsets Philly Boy. Morrison doesn't get on Philly's bandwagon and that upsets him. SOUR GRAPES!!
So they had an affair. How many of you on here either have had affairs or know someone who has? That doesn't make it right, but neither is it so outrageous that we have no other recourse than to fire the man from his job. Why has severing people from their jobs become the nearly automatic, expected recourse for every transgression public or private?
Posted by: KAB | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 11:51 AM

Posted by: Newbie | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 12:10 PM
The reasoning for severing a public servant like an Attorney General would be that if he were so weak as to cave in to temptation then he could likely be bought off with money or sex.
In my line of work, they check your credit history, reason being that a person who is irresponsible enough to get in over their head in debt might be vulnerable and leak company trade secrets to competitors for a fee.

How come nobdy is out to hang HER? - KAB
Because she has already resigned her position.
Because she was pressured to assist in a serious felony by the Chief Law Enforcement Official in the State, yet, rather than comply with a demand that was blatantly illegal, she reported it.
Because she willingly admitted her digression before it was exposed by another.
Because she was threatened with being black listed from finding another job.
Because she is HOT! Linda, if you need anything at all darlin. You have my number.

I don't think bopping his mistress in public offices on public time is anywhere in his job description. Something tells me interfering in a criminal proceeding, or threatening the help with no future employment if they don't help is either. Nor would it be in LA or Boston. San Francisco maybe, but, I would choose to deal with it...otherwise.

Sexual harassment is shorthand for discrimination in the workplace based upon gender. It can occur as a "quid pro quo" (favorable terms and conditions at work in exchange for sex or unfavorable terms and conditions at work for refusal) or creating a hostile work environment. Anyone in Paul's office could claim that they were discriminated against because Paul favored his paramour. Let the games begin!
Posted by: PointofKnowReturn | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 02:13 PM
Why are all the defenders only responding to the issue of harassment? It seems to me that the real story is about Paul using his contact at Phill Kline's office to get inside information into his Planned Parenthood case. Even though you may feel more comfortable accusing his gal pal of being a slut, and anyone who condemns his behavior as a bible-thumper, this case isn't just about the sex.
Posted by: Bill Sutton | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 02:19 PM
Nick. Guess you've never had a liaison with a fellow employee. For starters, I'd be stunned if this were during normal business hours. My affair was lots of late nights but never during the day.
But even if he did. So what. He's not the first nor will he be the last.
This drivel about being soft on the prosecution of criminal because he was having an affair is a smoke screen for partisan political rhetoric.
Posted by: JJ | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 02:36 PM
As an attorney and a supporter of Mr. Morrison in his election bid for AG,I am profoundly disappointed in admissions by Mr. Morrison of his misconduct. He has evidently put himself before his family, his collegues and his supporters. He should not be allowed to put himself before the citizens he is sworn to protect. Mr. Morrison, resign now.
Posted by: Ellen Ryan | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 02:46 PM
No JJ I didn't. You see I worked for the state and would have been prosecuted by the same individual that is now facing his own demise. I also spent time as an EEO officer so I knew as does Mr Morrison, that it is a situation that a man cannot win. Even dating a fellow officer when working for the state is almost a guaranteed train wreck.
When I was married, I was also not the type that would do such a thing to my wife, knowing that short of murder, there is no greater betrayal, and the trust lost can never truly be regained.
He wasn't being soft on the prosecution of the criminal JJ. He was attempting to dismantle the case entirely because he was paid to do it. To say it had anything to do with partisan political rhetoric is complete idiocy. He was poking the damn bitch before he ever even decided to run for office for crying out loud!
What we really have here is you still think he can advance your agenda. Wake up and smell the coffee my friend. He was never one of you. He was out for himself and he ganked the lot of you. Cut your losses as fast as you can, because if you don't he will drag your party down with him. Get him out of the news, and gone fishin, ASAP....or continue to hang tough...please.
Posted by: Nick | Monday, December 10, 2007 at 02:59 PM
So Governor.....did you demand, or would you have called for, the resignation of King William the Slick back in the 90's? Seems to me that he did pretty much the same thing. Affair. In office. Subordinate.
Frankly, I think it is a vast right-wing conspiracy, created by Kline, who knew that he would lose the election. So he set up this affair, ya see? Got one of Morrison's bimbos to get it on with the boss, knowing that they would just trade places. Then when it was the right time, he would get her to take her story to the press to embarass Morrison. Then, here's where it gets good, he would suddenly switch parties, and get Queen Kathleen to appoint him back as AG again. It's those damn Republicans again - it's all a conspiracy, I'm tellin ya. Now where is that cigar I was smoking?

Amazing. Trash the accuser. As long as the accused is a Democrat. These people make me sick. This guy has some bad moral and ethical standards and he is supposed to uphold the law in Kansas. Seems like we Kansans are getting the same treatment the accuser got.
Of course, all the wind bags and simpletons in Kansas whom voted for this guy are getting exactly what the rest of us were saying about this guy. He is not qualified. The allegations of sexual harrassment came up during the campaign. For some reason nobody believed them (of which were also true and he stated that in not some many words).
So now we have a morally and ethically bankrupt AG to look after our interests. When we had an AG whom looked after our interests.

No crime that he was sleeping with the woman...HOWEVER, the accusation is that he asked her to interfere in pending litigation.
Why don't u give Clinton a rest? He was impeached and then exonerated in the Senate. Still looking to settle a score from years ago?

Apparently, the adulteress knows that Morrison will attack his accusers, and has left the state of Kansas.
Such immoral abuses of government offices and government employees are not to be tolerated by a decent and just American people. If the U.S. Senate had done their duty and convicted and sentenced William the Slick, then people like Morrison would not be causing these expensive and disruptive scandals, thinking they can get away with it and not be held accountable.
Oust Morrison, then jail William the Slick - for selling pardons, or at least one of his other crimes.
(Remembers, Slick's defenders said wait til he's out of office to jail him. Well, he's out.)
