WDAF: Big questions about school sale

Specifically, the old Faxon School at 37th and Paseo in the Kansas City School District. The station says the district accepted a bid of $76K for the building, even though it was offered much more by other bidders -- as much as $200K, the station reports.

Here's a clip from a Star article mentioning Faxon in December ...

The current rave is Old Faxon at 3710 the Paseo -- a grand old school facing a busy street. Several planners and entrepreneurs have been bidding with plans that include shops, outdoor dining areas, offices and apartments.

... Even a hot property like Faxon needs a lot of work. Anyone who stepped inside during an open house this fall entered a cave-like hull.

Many rooms were dark except for the light seeping through boarded windows. Bare bulbs hanging on extension cords revealed a school abandoned in the middle of renovations. Whole stairways had been removed. The steel skeletons of new walls stood in shadows with stacks of unused drywall, unboxed windows and air ducts beneath dangling cables.

Hat Tip: Many thanks, Spencer

That's why the "Board" is so busy trying to oust Superintendents, they are crooks and don't want the public to know it. But, sorry to say we found out about the "Board" long ago, when our children stopped learning at a higher education. They proably sold our system down the river too. GET RID OF THAT BOARD!!!! VOTE and voice your opinion. Its up to the younger generation who's children will have to go through it with this outdated "Board". Send them packing, bring in new innovative thinking, because its apparent the members of the board are all living in "before Christ" days.

The fact that the school board is corrupt is no surprise to anyone. I wonder what bribes went down on this?

just like a new mayor trying to make changes. Let's get rid of them because we don't want change or to get found out how corrupt we are.

I'm surprised that they haven't used the race card in the reason the sale is being questioned.

I agree with the Boards decision to let Mr. Amato go only because they should've never hired him in the first place. The school board is a joke and it’s because the citizens of Kansas City don’t take the time out to research the people who they put in positions of power.

BTW James that picture is of the New Faxon at Linwood & Paseo, the other is a much older building.

Ack, sorry about that, Ni. Thanks for the heads-up!
