Fort Riley soldier suspected of bank heist shoots self in the head, police say

The holdup was in Topeka, but the soldier got into a four-hour standoff with the authorities near Paxico. The Cap-Journal says it happened along Interstate 70, which caused traffic to be stopped in both lanes. Police didn't realize the man had apparently shot himself in the head until after they arrested him. Late Friday, he was in life-threatening condition.
