Judge tells defendants: Learn English or go to prison
Story is from Pennsylvania. The three defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery, and the judge let them be paroled -- IF they learn English, earn GEDs and get full-time jobs.
They're supposed to show up in a year and take an English test. Their lawyers are trying to see if this is legal.
Hat Tip: Many thanks, JUNGLE JIM

Good, I hope they are held to it.

A quick review:
Guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery.
Sentence: Learn English, get a GED or go to prison.
And the lawyer wants to check what?
Assume: Lawyer finds it is an illegal sentence... then his clients go to prison!!!
Necesito un nuevo abogado.

Read all of this & you will see how it applies to this news. I dont see a problem with judges sentence. I am tired of pushing 1 for english, waiting in line while some mexican tries to barter a lower bill & no tax @ the register, & 2 languages on everything. You want to be in my country LEARN HOW WE LIVE! They should alter to us not vice versa.. Now read this & see if it makes sense to you!!
THE BIRD FEEDER
I bought a bird feeder. I hung
It on my back porch and filled
It with seed. What a beauty
A bird feeder is, as I filled it
Lovingly with seed. Within a
Week we had hundreds of birds
Taking advantage of the
Continuous flow of free and
Easily accessible food.
But then the birds started
Building nests in the boards
Of the patio, above the table,
And next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was
Everywhere: on the patio tile,
The chairs, the table ...
Everywhere!
Then some of the birds
Turned mean. They would
Dive bomb me and try to
Peck me even though I had
Fed them out of my own
Pocket.
And others birds were
Boisterous and loud. They
Sat on the feeder and
Squawked and sc reamed at
All hours of the day and night
And demanded that I fill it
When it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even
Sit on my own back porch
Anymore. So I took down the
Bird feeder and in three days
The birds were gone. I cleaned
Up their mess and took down
The many nests they had built
All over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like
It used to be ... Quiet, serene
And no one demanding their
Rights to a free meal.
Now let's see ....
Our government gives out
Free food, subsidized housing,
Free medical care, and free
Education and allows anyone
Born here to be an automatic
Citizen.
Then the illegal's came by the
Tens of thousands. Suddenly
Our taxes went up to pay for
Free services; small apartments
Are housing 5 families; you
Have to wait 6 hours to be seen
By an emergency room doctor;
Your child's 2nd grade class is
Be hind other schools because
Over half the class doesn't speak
English.
Corn Flakes now come in a
Bilingual box; I have to
'press one' to hear my bank
Talk to me in English, and
People waving flags other
Than 'Old Glory' are
Squawking and screaming
In the streets, demanding
More rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
To take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not,
Continue cleaning up the poop!

Olszewski noted that Luis Reyes, Ricardo Dominguez and Kelvin Reyes-Rosario
Gee, learn English and then send back to Mexico...

I don't want to clean the poop, just send the poop back so our toilets will be sparking clean!

To G:
I have 2 associate degrees. I would say that I am wise. Your response does not make any sense. I stated facts. Nothing to wise up about there.

Go Kevan!
Cut their damn wings off, make them clean up the mess themselves, then make them walk back home. Or shoot them.

How about also requiring some of the non foreign, us born criminals to also get a GED and a job. I see so many, non illegals, clogging the court system, filling the jails up and then getting out and having no ged and no job and ending right back in jail.

riley,
I agree, but we have to start somewhere. At least we've started.

Maybe people wouldn't have problems with these people if they came over here w/o expecting stuff from us. They wanna live here fine- learn the language, pay the taxes, and pay to care for your own families. Don't come over here and expect us to change our way of life for you. I see no problem w/ this ruling it is past time we do something!!!!

The last time something like this happened, the defendants were sentenced to be the General Manager and Head Coach for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Heck, I'd like to see the people born and raised here learn to speak, read and write proper English!

So Uncle Sam starts NAFTA to give, among others, Mexico a way to create jobs in-country. Now we have crap products that rivals the poisonous junk coming in from one of the worlds worst human rights violators being China. And stil they violate our borders.........Now Lawyers are pondering the legality of a Judges verdict requiring the criminals to learn English? Does anyone wonder why Attorneys have such a stigma that they do??? Certain Politicians and Lawyers have become the scourge of our society here in America.

Can't you just send me to prison judge??

I understand that some of you are against immigration but playing the devil's advocate here...have anyone of you been in their shoes? You expect them to come up here and automatically be transformed into living the American culture and speaking the language. I have personally known lawyers, architechs, and medical professionals who have left the threatening conditions of their home countries to come here and clean your toilets. Please cut them some slack. There may be some bad "birds" out there and I don't support them in the least but there are also quite a few people who are making the effort of attending ESL classes and bettering themselves. The best way to help them adapt is to get involved in your communities. In the KC metro area alone are an estimated 150,000 hispanics.
In regards to the story at hand, I agree with the judge.

I DONT want to even visit yours but if I were to I would LEARN language to get by there yet U want me to give someone a 2nd chance that wants to live here & have it better than me. Please! No English-No green card!! And please no more BARTER! I am so tired of hearing $6 no tax for a $10 order around town!!!

These clowns are guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery. And we aren't deporting them why?
Who cares if they learn English? Now they'll be able to announce their robberies in English?
