Man shot, killed in Quality Hill carjacking

Happened on Tuesday afternoon near Case Park, Joyce Tsai reports. The victim was carjacked, too, so police were looking for his vehicle: 2002 maroon or red four-door Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows and Missouri license plate 1CB 83L. Here's the KCPD statement:

On Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at approximately 5:15pm, KCMO Police were called to the area of 8th and Jefferson Street, Case Park, in regard to an ambulance call. Upon arrival officers located a shooting victim (black male in his mid 20's) laying in the street.

He was pronounced dead a short time later. Detectives believe he was shot during a car-jacking. The victim's vehicle is described as a 2002 maroon or red Chevy Tahoe (4 door) with tinted windows, bearing Missouri license plate(s) 1CB-83L.

Witnesses observed a black male fleeing in the vehicle immediately after the shooting. Anyone with information in regard to the whereabouts of the vehicle and/or the suspect is urged to call the KCPD Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043, or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

When I first moved to Kansas City, my first apartment was just down the street from the shooting scene. Jefferson leads up to a point where you can see the river, the downtown airport and a good part of the Northland, and it's all very pretty. The area itself was kind of dicey, especially at night, though.

James - I work maybe a half mile from where this occurred. Remembered going there in 94 with the floods. A lot of that area has been cleaned up because of DST and State Street. This was across the street from State Street. Think they jacked someone leaving work from State Street.

Know several folks who work there, will have to get in contact.

HaH, and people wonder why I carry a firearm in my vehicle? I won't be a headline like this and as more and more people make this decision, headlines like this will become a thing of the past.

Police only react to crimes it takes citizens to stop crime.

He did work at State Street...great friend of mine...wonderful person

My condolences melissa.

Have not heard from any of my contacts there as of yet.

Kansas City is ridiculous when it comes to crime....and everyday you run the risk of being a victim to violence here....It seems nothing is being done to rid the streets of crime in this area....condolences and sympathy go out to the family...another young man's life and dreams taken so soon!

I live in Quality Hill, and despite this unfortunate incident it is still a nice area to live in....but I have noticed a decrease in security in the area in the past year or so. Maybe they thought the "element" had disappeared but it would be nice to see more "Segway" cops rollin around at night......

jrock the cops are somewhere in a dark corner eating donuts and ass....
