The Vermont towns of Brattleboro and Marlboro have voted to indict President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against the Constitution. The local constabulary is supposed to arrest the two should they ever set foot in town.

Assuming the police can get past the Secret Service.

The beauty of anything illegal that the Bush administration has done is that its all covered with the red tape of national security. Even the suits over the warrantless wiretaps, which were illegal, can't get anywhere because the Justice Dept., under the umbrella of national security, has been given a free ride by the courts blocking the subpoena of records to find out who was actually spied upon. The statutes of limitations will have long passed by the time the illegal acts (warrantless clandestine espionage, torture, etc.) by the time the documents that prove any of it become declasified.

Detention of American citizens in Guantanamo Bay without the protections of Habeas Corpus or any other protections of the Constitution - Illegal. Jose Padilla's case should have been the one to determine it, but it was tossed on a technicality, then they went ahead and charged him in order to make his case moot to keep him from getting back to the Supreme Court. It almost worked, except the court then took up Hamdi v. Bush where they explicitly said that this treatment of U.S. citizens was unconstitutional. You could blame that on a liberal Supreme Court though (lead by Roberts as CJ).

The Bush administration has done plenty of illegal stuff. They've also been very good at keeping it out of the courts by buring the body, so to speak, where no one is even legally allowed to look for the next 20-50 years.

Not that any of this necessarily constitutes a crime, per se, but impeachment proceedings were instituted against Bill for much less.

I'd like to thank all of you for evolving an argument that has gone in circles because nobody is willing to accept that may there party or people associated with there point of view ever made a mistake. First, for the Democrats and liberals, you are all going to have to come to grips with the fact that Clinton did lie under oath. While you may think that it was a minor offense in a trial that had little or nothing to do with the national security of the country, that lie became the earmark of his presidency and will permanently stain (no pun intended) his record.

As for the Republicans and conservatives and other blind Bush supporters, may I first say all of your nicknames for Democrats and liberals are really tired and played out and most certainly do not infer the credibility that you claim the Democrats and liberals lack. You all will have to admit that while Bush may have headed into Iraq in good faith that the intelligence provided to him was accurate and as the person with the final decision making power, George W. needs to take the blame for the mess he has got our country into.

I could go on with a lecture to JDog about how his so-called higher level of understanding about the econmy is WAY off base and how Clinton's policy did strengthen the economy and how George W.'s has caused the second recession of his presidency (the first was caused by Alan Greenspan and the Fed), but I should probably get some more work done. However, if you so entice me, I will be more than happy to give you an economics lesson.

That being said, I am not sure how one ill-informed point would cause any and all argument made afterwards to crumble. Now, I would understand if that point had been a base assumption in the argument, but, in fact, the point had no basis in the argument.

Now you might argue from this point, that while the invalid point I made proves that all of the points I made are subject to be dismissed, in fact, that seems to be the point you made in your post directed at me. If that is the case, all arguments made by you after your outrageos and completely unfounded claim that a crime becomes a crime once evidence becomes available. Even though you never conceded that point, I believe any reasonable person would call that argument fallacious. Should we therefore dismiss your arguments or are you willing to accept that making one bad argument does not prevent a person from presenting other reasonable arguments, especially when those arguments have different underlying assumptions?

Well, after reading all of the comments above, I must say that this seems to be a very passionate debate. Here are my views on the situation:

At one time, NO ONE can deny the fact that Saddam had WMD's. However, at the time that the United States [illegally] invaded Iraq, there were no WMD's to be found, and no trace of Saddam having WMD's any time in the [then] recent past.

Do I think Saddam was an EVIL man? Yes.
Do I think Saddam should have been removed from power? Yes.
Do I think the United States had the authority (morally or legally) to do so? No.
Do I think the people of Iraq should have been the one's to remove Saddam from power? Yes.
Do I think the people of Iraq were the only people (legally or morally) "authorized" to remove Saddam from power? Yes.

Let me explain my thinking like this:
I am a Christian by faith. In this example, you are a Jehova's Witness, or a Mormon (both of which, in MY opinion, are occults). Now, since I believe that your beliefs are evil occults, I go into your home and tell you that you can no longer live this religion, remove you from your 'head of household' position in your home, and force you to follow the Christian religion. Would this be right for me to do (morally or legally)? No. However, that is EXACTLY what the United States did when we invaded Iraq.

Since the beginning of the war in Iraq, there have been countless memos and documents that have been released to the public in regard to WMD's in Iraq, and what led up to the war. If one does his/her homework and REALLY digs into it, you will find that the ONLY people that were touting the WMD's were the bush administration. All others involved were telling the world that there were [at that time] currently no WMD's in Iraq, and the weapons inspectors were asking for one more week to complete the inspections before anyone invaded Iraq. bush, in his infinite IGNORANCE and desire for revenge for his father's shortfalls in Iraq, ignored these other people. It has been proven (through memos and legal documents) that bush had been planning the invasion in Iraq even before he STOLE the 2000 election.

Recall, if you will, what bush's reaction was when he was informed that the United States had been attacked by terrorists while in that school in Florida. Was there any surprise on his face? No. Why? Because he already had knowledge of the pending attacks. Did he leave immediately? No. Myself, I would have cut my visit short to take care of business. After all, what is more important? 25-30 disappointed school children or (approximately) 5,000 presumed dead Americans, with more planes in the air headed for strategic targets? Not to mention the fact that he could have cut his visit to the school children short and came back later to finish the visit.

These things alone are enough to get bush impeached. The trouble is, although the House and Senate are controlled by the Democrats, there are JUST ENOUGH Republicans in the House and Senate to prevent such an impeachment. Why would they prevent it? After all, most of them disagree with bush and are trying their best to distance themselves from him. They want to prevent a worse black eye on their party than our current idiot, ur, President has already given the Republican party.

People "in the know" at the White House during both the Clinton years and the [early] bush years have stated, PUBLICLY, that the Clinton administration released documents to the bush administration regarding the attacks on September 11, 2001. Therefore, it is obvious that bush KNEW IN ADVANCE of the attacks. However, people in the bush administration have said that bush was 'so blinded by his plan to invade Iraq' (me paraphrasing what they said) that he dismissed the information. Had he put his [revenge] agenda aside and focused on the impending Al Queda attacks, he may have been able to prevent them from happening at all. (Notice I said MAY have been able to. We will never know now.)
So, should bush be impeached, arrested, tried, convicted, and given such a long prison sentence that he will die in prison? In my opinion, YES, YES, and for God's sake, YES!!! It's not just a matter of 'was/is bush a bad president.' It's a matter of the lies, deceit, and illegal actions bush has done that he should be impeached, arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced to the rest of his life in prison.

However, on the flip-side of the same coin, I must refer to earlier when I said that I am of Christian faith. That being said, I have to say that, no matter my opinion about bush, no matter what he has or has not done, no matter if he is the best President or the worst President the United States has ever had (in my opinion, he will be listed in the history books as the latter of the two), he is fulfilling the prophecy in the Bible where it says 'there will be wars and rumors of wars.' With that in mind, maybe having such a vengeful, idiot serving in the Oval Offic is our [unfortunate] "maifest destiny."
