Listed below are links to weblogs that reference East St. Louis EMT shot while treating gunshot victim :

You are not going to believe this, but on CSI Miami, had something very similar to start the show, but it was shooting the new ME and she lasted about 30 seconds, so now they have another one who I don't think wlll work out. Guy is a dork.

This kind of thing happens fairly often. I think it's the mentality that the government is the enemy.

Well... In GTA4 I kill someone then wait for the ambulance to come so I can shoot the EMT's and take their ride. :)

My dad told us stories from when he worked as an EMT back in the late 70's and early 80's where he would get guns pulled on him by the people he was trying to help. All they saw were the flashing lights and uniform.

Didn't this happen to rescue helicopters in New Orleans after Katrina hit ?
Posted by: Sicem | Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 02:00 PM
that technically qualifies as a war zone.

Thats why you shouldn't help other people they don't care about you

BOO HOO HOO HOO, we are a product of our environment...Gawd, this gangster garbage is getting old.

Sicem,
No, that was one of the rumors someone started; apparently to distract from the crappy job the government was doing tending to the disaster. Just like all the stories of rape and assaults you heard about in the civic center.

Actually I have a brother in law that went down there for the relief missions. The helicopters were shot at by people on the ground.
I don't know anything about the rapes and assaults.

It's not uncommon for SWAT teams to use ambulances or EMT vehicles when swooping in on a drug raid in a bad area. I've seen the back doors swing open and 5 or 6 SWAT guys jump out - guns drawn. It might be good cover, but it also breeds distrust in a neighborhood that already thinks the government is the enemy. Illegal drugs feed a lot of people in the bad neighborhoods. I may not agree with it, but it's how it is.

Blarney's right (again), there were shots fired at the birds. I have no reason to believe the rapes and assualts were fabricated either. That many people in one area is bound to have issues like that.
Any of you remember a good friend of mine that was shot a couple of yrs ago right here in KC? She was responding to a shooting/Fire and the suspect opened fire as soon as they pulled in. She is a Paramedic with MAST.

"Blarney's right (again),"
I can't remember the last time I was wrong.

This is why law enforcment really needs to start taking down these gangs or sects or cliques like they did the mafia in the 20s and 30.
They need to get agents from other cities to infiltrate these groups and find the real criminals and take them down rather than than their current approache of looking at everyone in these neighborhoods as potential criminals. Not only is that discriminatory, its inefficient.
And the regular local police tactics of investigating only after a specific crime are not working.

Well, at least they didn't blow the ambo up.

This happened in East St. Louis and Washington Park. Need we say more?

During the riots in KC in 68, snippers were shooting at firemen.
Nice folks. Kind of blows away the myth about white flight to the suburbs just being about skin color.

One of my students worked on an ambulance, and they were fired on more than once. It doesn't always make the news. Could be they're afraid of copycats trying to get their few seconds of fame on the nightly news.

I knew it was a sigh ropin, I sometimes get tired of me being right too. HaH!

I heard the Philly Police Dept has 4 officers for hire!!

Because this is not uncommon, many states have laws on the books treating assault on EMS/Firefighters the same as assault on a Law Enforcement officer. If more people knew that, they might think twice about throwing that bottle at a crew picking up their latest gun-shot victim.
Then again, look at the people doing the shooting/attacking of these EMS crews. Would they really think twice either way?
Posted by: redwalnut | Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 06:54 PM
Blarney, try harder next time please?
Redwalnut, that was the whole idea behind the law written, but you're right, these people could care less about the level of crime it is. The only good that law did was make these people (EMS & Nursing) feel better.
CD: People would be amazed at what doesn't make the news. I just found out about a shooting that a friend was involved in. Couldn't believe it wasn't in the news.

I'll admit that I wasn't there, but I was pretty sure that I read that there were *no* confirmed shootings at any of the helicopters during the Katrina gun confiscation efforts a/k/a relief efforts.
Also, the reports about rapes at the Superdome were fabricated.
If you guys have a source of official confirmation that there were indeed shots fired at helicopters I'd appreciate it if you posted the same.
