Homicide Map
BTW, I'm trying to build a map of KCMO homicides this year, as you can see in the post below. I've only had a chance to plot about half of the cases so far, but hope to do more in the next week. You can see the ones I've gotten so far by clicking to see a larger version of the map.
Let me know if you love or hate it, or if you've got any ideas to improve it!
One caveat: The locations aren't exact to the house number. I use the hundred or thousand block of an address.

James: Will you do KCK? That would be great.

PS. Is there a link to your map?

Rosie: Try this for a link.
Eventually, I'd like to get the whole metro, but I'm doing KCMO first because it's the biggest and I've got a good start on that list. But yeah, I will try to get KCK soon!

If you havent already, you might take a look at the L A times homocide report map. Im curious how our homicide rate compares to last year, any idea?

The LA Times crime map contains details of the crimes when clicked on the icon. I'd might log in to look at that. Otherwise I just get my news from the dirty tv news websites. The ones that do not required one to log into.

Double-M: Will do! Thanks for the tip!
eye of the tiger: You don't have to log-in to use the crime map. And if you click the blue "pushpins," you'll see details of each case.
Again, I'm sorry you have to log-in for some of the Star's content. You don't for the crime blog. But frankly, most newspaper sites ask for a log-in. That's one of the very small favors they ask in turn for giving you, you know, free news. If that's so offensive, you can even make up a fake log-in.

Great job James. You realize of course that if you don't add the murders on the Kansas side KCMOian's are going to get their panties in a bunch.
Then again, if you add the murders on the Kansas side, the KCMOian's are going to get their panties in a bunch. ;-)

They already have them, and it does motivate them. Motivates them to do everything they can to not publicize it, mis-characterize it, deny it and twist it into something other than what it is.

That is cool James.
Just for stats..
The block I grew up on Forest Avenue. Has claimed a lot of lives due to murder.
6 in 11 years.

Isn't this homicide number 44 as the guy that fled from police last week and wrecked at 24th and prospect was charged with two murders?
