KCPD plans sobriety checkpoint for May 23

That's a Friday. Your one hint? It'll be somewhere in the Northland. Hope that narrows it down.

What is the incentive for the KCPD to continue to have these checkpoints? Federal grant money?

As I said yesterday, checkpoints like these are conditioning our children to accept this type of police activity as normal.

If we really wanted to get drunk drivers off the roads, we would concentrate our efforts on drunk drivers.

Sort of Federal grant money. The lion's share is actually funded by the IIHS (Insurance Industry "Trade Group"), then laundered through a "non profit" Foundation and doled out by the NTSB as Federal Grants.

Like the FDA, since the 1990's it has become legal for Insurance Industry employees to also work for, (and collect a paycheck) from Federal agencies.

They are literally taking bribes for selective enforcement of profit protecting legislation in exchange for financing officer overtime pay.

Yes, folks - this type of behavior described above is called FACISM!

If it gets a few drunks off the road, then it's worth the effort. Nothing to hide, nothing to complain about. I'll gladly sit through a checkpoint if it helps remove drunk drivers, and perhaps a few folks with outstanding warrants.

That's right 'True American'....take what the government gives you and like it! Were you by any chance in occupied France helping the Nazis during WWII...Just wondering.

True American, your comment is anything but American. You want that kind of "freedom", move to Cuba, China, or N. Korea.

As a contemporary of our founding fathers said, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Richard Jackson 1759

The Peoples Republic Of Kansas should get a proper mention.Been driving back and forth to Denver...3 times a week....and anyone with California tags and some of the most harmless middle aged grand parent, student road warrior types are having their cars searched by both cop and dog.All the way across the State both ways. By the way where does Ks recruit its Hiway Patrol from?I meet with Patrolman and DOT enforcement all over the country and KS is the bottom of the barrell.I mean frightenly lacking in ...well not confidence but...dare I say intellect.

In no way, shape, or form do I condone drinking and driving (in fact, I don't drink), however I personally do not believe this police tactic is Constitutional. When I was growing up, I was taught that one of the things that made the U.S. different from Communist countries was that we had freedom of movement, without being subject to government intrusion unless there was probable cause. I am all for saturation patrols, speed traps, or any other viable means to get drunk drivers off the road. However, now there is talk of legislation to remove political talk radio from the airwaves. Once the slippery slide of losing our personal freedoms starts, it is nearly impossible to put on the brakes.

Sobriety check points don't work. I have had numerous friends get through them with minimal effort after drinking out at the bars.

When the ask if you have has anything to drink, just say "no." If you don't admit having "one or two" it is very difficult for them to prove probably cuase.

It is much more effective for cops to sit in high bar areas like Westport and pull over cars. Then in court they can get on the stand and lie and say the car was weaving, failing to control speed, riding the center line - anything they need to do to prove probably cuase.

If they took the 30-plus cars they use for a check point nad had them actually patrol and look for people driving impaired they would generate a lot more arrests.

If the Government wanted to truly stop drunk drivers, it would be mandatory that all cars have interlock devices requiring your to breath into them prior to starting your car. DUI's would be more severely punished and deaths related to drunk driving accidents would be considered premeditated murder, not manslaughter.

The truth is that neither the Government nor MADD etc want to stop drunk driving.

THEY NEED TO HAVE AN "ILLEGAL ALIEN" CHECKPOINT HERE IN KC. LOL.

Sitting at a check point that targets criminals is not a threat to any American who isn't guilty of a crime. I'm glad they have them. I also support sneaky radar guns... speeder caught. If you're abiding by the law, then what's the problem?

Are you seriously comparing this to World War II? Odd comparison.

I want to have the freedom to drive the streets knowing that drunken idiots are being targeted, and a few other criminals are nabbed in the process.

'True American'- Are you serious?? We are protected by the Constitution (remember that little old piece of paper??) from unlawful search and seizure!! If you want to start giving up your rights that thousands of Americans died for just because you are "law-abiding" citizen and don't have to worry about it, then you are a really misguided ###hole. That type of erosion of your rights is exactly what leads to police being able to ask for your "papers"! Why are you so eager to give up your hard-fought for rights?!?! I don't understand people like you!

What's the Constitution among friends? And the insurance industry is very friendly to those who make them billions in extra premiums. good job of following the money.

BY DEFINITION, those who are stopped at a checkpoint are not driving badly, or you would not need a checkpoint to stop them!

The Founding Fathers would be ashamed of us if they saw the kind of police-state crap we put up with, groveling in fear, asking big brother to protect us against the threat du jour: Drunks who aren't particularly drunk, ten year olds in airport security lines, killer bees, whatever makes sweeps week! Boo!

Osama observed us well. He understood that if he could just get us to be afraid -- with the eager help of the Bushies PR guys -- we would destroy our own liberites. One spectacular attack was all he needed, and we rolled over and hid in a bale of duct tape and plastic wrap, shredding our Constitution. (Of course, our troops are the exception. They expose themselves to harms way -- lions led by lambs and liars.)

But the reat of us? We cannot be the Land of the Free because we have become the Home of the Fearful.

I mainly fearful of the police...and spiders...and of Fantasia after last night's performance...

Our liberties erosion rate is indirectly proportional to the average IQ of American Citizens.

i hope i got the math right...i'll just go eat my paste now while i still can...i am sure there will be laws against that soon...

KC, I couldn't have said it better. Our founding father's would be turning in their graves, and you are correct about Obama. He touted that to begin with. It's the direct definition of Terrorism.

What's sad is , I don't ever see us returning, just disintegrating closer into a "world order" as predicted:(

Mr 666 is getting closer and closer. Never dreamed it could happen in my life time, but now I can see how it's going to happen.

these checkpoints consistently snare 1-3% of cars stopped. They don't work. Period. But if you don't like them, don't worry. Nissan and other manufacturers already have interlock ignition devices built into cars they will be introducing in the next couple of years. Check it out on youtube.

Why don't they just put a DUI checkpoint in the Taco Bell drive-thru. They'd probably catch about a thousand drunk drivers.

What a bunch of articulate, freedom loving individuals in this area! Just one person who supports the police-state-style checkpoints with the theory of "If you aren't doing anything wrong..."

I'd like to apply that logic to our government. Hey, if they aren't doing anything wrong, why all the deleted e-mails? On the Federal level, why isn't anyone allowed to know the details of Presidential Directive 51? Why is everything a secret? Why can't I tune in to my Representative's "channel" on the internet and watch her going about her business day?

I say take down all the cameras from the intersections and put them up in the halls of government! Vote Lance Weber this November to turn the spotlight back on our elected officials. They work for us, right? We should be able to be easily and fully apprised of everything that they are doing on our behalf.
