Happened about 3:15 a.m. in the 1600 block of West 12th Street -- sounds like it was in the West Bottoms.
From KCPD: On today’s date KC police officers were dispatched to the above address on a shooting. Upon arrival, the male victim was found laying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by MAST ambulance. As of this time no suspect is in custody.

That is the west bottoms, James. Sheesh, I was looking down at it yesterday morning from Case park, may even have taken a picture including it.

I was in the area soon after this happened and got to see the body from about 20 feet away. This is my regular Gas Station. I never get out of my car without my loaded XD 40 chambered and ready with my hand on the grip. Let some coward approach me like they did this man early this morning and see what happens.

I used to live on Quality Hill -- I never used this gas station. Just a weird, spooky area ...

I used to live in the Quality Hill apartments too. This was the reason I moved. Lots of shootings and murders in this supposedly revitalized area. Lies. This is about the 5th murder, all unsolved I might add, in the past 12 months. Two shootings last fall at 12th and Washington outside HNTB. Homeless man murdered by the church. Murder in broad daylight in case park. And now this.
I had LOTS of issues at that gas station. They overcharged my credit card, I had people try to rob me. I moved out of KCMO for this reason. No surprise.

Actually, they have brought charges in the Case Park shooting. The victim was a young man who worked for KC Southern and was killed during a carjacking, if my memory is right.

This "young man" was my nephew... my sister's only son. THIS TIME it's not just another article in the paper. It's hit home. His mother didn't "get to see the body" as one person wrote ... but she was there. She HAD to see her son lying lifeless on the ground; it was pure hell. Can you understand it from a mother's point of view? He was 27 years old with a family who loved him. Life is fragile and can be over in a second. Respect it; respect yourselves.

MP: No offense was meant to your nephew. When I said "young man," I was referring to a victim from ANOTHER homicide earlier in the year at Case Park. It's up on the bluffs, several blocks from where your nephew was attacked.
I'm sorry this has happened to your family.

James,
Thanks for the update. I'm glad to see charges have been filed.

Quality Hill is an unsafe area I never leave my car without my WD-40.
