Topeka man convicted of shooting, killing hunter
Story is from Emporia and involves the death of Beau Arndt, 18, a hunter who was shot and killed near Americus last year. From The AP:
The jury took about three hours Monday to find 57-year-old Theron Thomas Kent guilty of involuntary manslaughter, hunting without permission and criminal discharge of a firearm ...

Let's see. Joe Horn is free, Theron Thomas Kent is going to prison. Hart fired deliberately into the backs of two men running away from him, Kent at goose decoys (or a coyote), hitting a young man hidden in a blind.
I obviously don't understand.

I assure you -- I have never shot anyone, much less in the back! :)

A couple of differences.
One was in Texas, the other in Kansas. Different laws/lawyers/judges/juries.
In one case, a lawful citizen shot a criminal who was in the process of committing a crime.
In the other case, a criminal in the process of committing a crime, accidentally shot a human. (I may be out on a limb here, assuming he was really shooting at a goose with a rifle.)
And the bad thing is, this will be categorized as a hunting accident. Why do I not believe it is a hunting accident, you ask? Because poaching is not the same as hunting.

I agree Elrond. If poaching is hunting, then hitting mailboxes with a bat from a car is baseball.
