Crime Stoppers now takes tips via text message

It's from the same company that handles Crime Stoppers' anonymous email tip service. The text messages, likewise, are anonymous, though authorities can write a tipster back to see if they have any more information. Sgt. Craig Sarver said they're trying to reach younger people, who might be more comfortable using a cellphone to contact authorities.

The text-messaging and email service cost Crime Stoppers about $1,000 annually. (It's been about a year since Crime Stoppers started using anonymous email. They say they've gotten 300 emails and, as a result, made seven arrests.)
