Guilty verdict in Fat Tone slaying

In Las Vegas, Andre “Mac Minister” Dow was convicted Monday of killing local rapper Anthony Watkins, aka "Fat Tone," and his friend, Jermaine Akins, back in 2005. Dow is eligible for life in prison. (Police suspect that Watkins' and Akins' deaths were actually revenge killings for a Cali rapper who was murdered in Kansas City.)

And of course all of the violence and killing associated with this epoch in Kansas City's rap history is unfortunate but what strikes me as even worse is that none of it produced any music that was even halfway decent.

Say what you will about Tupac and Biggie but at least a great collection of songs came out of their demise. True to unlucky Kansas City form, the only thing that resulted from a lethal rap battle involving this town was a lot of disappointment and tragedy waged to sub par beats, meaningless lyrics and mostly incompetent production. File this under the "die trying" portion of the stupid axiom touted by 50 Cent.

Anthony was an old friend of mine. He was not the man he portrayed himself to be. He created this image and was trying to live up to it and before he knew what was going on things spiraled out of control. When Mac Dre was killed he knew his death warrant had been signed, he spent his last days living in fear.
