Good morning, fellow Costellos. Welcome back, James, and thanks to Sara for "Shepherding" us thru the 4th.

Bainbridge, Wa., poice have busted 2 teens, 15 and 16, for blowing up port-a-potties using "sparkler bombs." If you'll pardon my saying so, it sounds like a sh!tty thing to do, and these kids may now be in deep doo-doo.

Three accused of holding woman. An 18-year-old mentally disabled woman was held against her will for as long as a month, tortured and forced into prostitution to pay off a relative's debt, according to federal court documents made public Thursday.

The teen, identified by officials only as "Jane Doe," was rescued Sunday by her sister. Two suspects were arrested by FBI agents and charged Wednesday.

Waquita "Goddess" Wallace, 33, and Richard Marquis Harper, 20, of the 5200 block of Genevieve Avenue, were charged in federal court in St. Louis with sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and sale into involuntary servitude. A woman known to authorities only as "April" also faces the same charges.

The war on cats continues...
Plan to kill feral cats has animal rights groups crying foul. A recently announced plan by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service proposes to eradicate all the cats with the hope that populations of endangered birds and reptiles on the (San Nicolas) island will flourish without the introduced predator.

Animal rights groups around the country have pounced on Fish and Wildlife over the idea of killing the cats, using dogs to sniff them out and padded leg traps to capture them.

And dogs, too...
Man beaten after trying to stop abuse of puppy. A 39-year-old man who tried to stop another man from beating a puppy was attacked with a chain and pelted with rocks, winding up in a hospital, a Lewis County sheriff's officer said.

The victim told sheriff's deputies that he saw a stranger choking and beating a black lab-mix puppy with a chain Thursday and yelled at him to stop.

Victor Esparza-Hernandez, 44, of Centralia was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault.

Brown said the puppy is all right and was returned to its owner, a friend of the arrested man.

Mpls. teen charged with offering his vote on eBay. A University of Minnesota student claimed it was all a joke when he put his vote in this fall's presidential election up for sale on the Web auction site eBay. But prosecutors didn't see the humor in the stunt.

Max P. Sanders, 19, was charged with a felony Thursday in Hennepin County District Court after allegedly asking for a minimum of $10 in exchange for voting for the bidder's preferred candidate. "Good luck!" Sanders wrote under the eBay handle zepdrummer612. "You're (sic) country depends on You!"

That thin air in the Rockie Mountains is having an affect...
Lakewood Man Jailed for Shooting Neighbor's Dog. A Lakewood man is accused of shooting his neighbor's dog last night, something the neighbor calls "senseless violence."

Ryan Hayes, 50, was arrested for cruelty to animals, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Marlys Duggan says she frequently goes across the street to visit Hayes and his mother. She tells Fox 31 News that Hayes has always liked her two year old terrier, Patches and frequently gave the dog treats.
Mugshot!

Thieves rip off paralyzed veteran. Thieves broke into storage units at a home under construction in Parker and made off with homebuilding supplies and volunteer homebuilders' tools, CBS4 News reported Friday.

The site, being built for Iraq veteran Matt Keil and his wife, Tracy, is clearly marked as being sponsored by the national organization Homes for our Troops.

Okay, ROCKY mountains. Duh!

At first, the case of missing Brooke Bennett appeared to be a story of an abduction by an Internet predator who befriended the 12-year-old Braintree girl through her MySpace page.

But now prosecutors charge her abduction was planned by an uncle with a history of sex crimes who used Brooke's MySpace page and a series of e-mails he sent using aliases to plan her abduction while deflecting attention from himself.

A 14-year-old girl, known in court papers as Juvenile 1, last saw Brooke alive when she was going upstairs with Brooke's uncle, Michael Jacques, 42, in his Randolph home on June 25, after Brooke was dropped off at a Randolph convenience store.

Juvenile 1 told police it was her understanding that Brooke was to be initiated into a "program for sex" that Juvenile 1 had been involved with since she was 9 years old.

A week later, Brooke's body was found buried in a shallow grave about a mile from Jacques' house.

Jacques has a history of sex crimes dating to 1985 when he was charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl about 100 times. Prosecutors eventually dismissed that case.

In 1993, Jacques was convicted of aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping. An affidavit in the case said Jacques tied up the victim and threatened to kill her while he sexually assaulted her.

UPDATE: Spitzer call girl drops 'Girls Gone Wild' lawsuit. The call girl involved in a scandal that brought down New York's former governor has dropped a lawsuit claiming "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis exploited her image and name on the Internet.

Ashley Dupre voluntarily dismissed the $10 million federal lawsuit, according to court documents filed Thursday. She said she was only 17 when she signed a binding contract giving permission to appear in the "Girls Gone Wild" video.

Beware of Wild and Scenic rapids . . . Last week, in Oregon, a white-water rafter drowned after her kayak struck a rock and capsized in a treacherous part of the river. The rapids are so challenging that it is impossible to recover the body. This is upsetting to people who can see her in the water.

Good morning, Patty.

Bye dog, Luv, Cat.

That might make a good movie. "The Woman in the Water". I think I'd be a little unnerved by that.

Hey JJ!

I agree - that would be an awful thing to see.

Getting a jump on the weekend recipe . . .

Just add tuna.

I'm all newsed out for now. See you later today or tomorrow.

Good morning, all!

Not criminal, but Holy Shades of the 5th Dimension, Batman! An Oregon man flies over 200 miles in a lawn chair. It was Kent Couch's third flight. I wonder if this will catch on, in face of dwindling customer service and rising fees of traditional airlines.

At least the on-time performance and cabin service would be better.

I used to think SouthWest was a taxi with wings, now it's a limo compared to other airlines:

Not crime related, but kind of cool. Young woman donates kidney to older brother.

Eight-year-old Minnesota girl recovers after nearly losing digits in tug-of-war fiasco.

Kids who deride Oniontown, NY, pelted by rocks. Two teenagers who drove to Oniontown after a series of YouTube videos portrayed the hamlet as a run-down, backwoods dump were stoned by an angry group of young residents. The two 17-year-olds from Mahopac, about 30 miles south of Oniontown, suffered head and face injuries.
