James, you forgot to post the rest of the release which read:
"Oh, and we want to get as many federal dollars as possible, so have to do this crap."

Ha! You're right -- I always leave that part off because I assume everybody already knows that! :)

What a waste of Federal and State Money. It's welfare for lazy law enforcement!

With the price of gas they should be doing checkpoints. Ha ha. Just being funny. Go get the drunks but leave the rest of us alone.

The PD's goal is to engage in revenue enhancement for Overland Park's general fund. If you don't think so, watch the statistics they post after it's done. 2 drunks and about 500 tickets written for various chickens--t offenses.
Do they say what hours these thieves will be out waylaying people?

Okay, so let me get this straight, the police get reamed for using checkpoints because they are not cost effective, AND the police get reamed for using saturation patrols which are more effective. Is that what we're getting at here? How about this, lets let the police go out and arrest as many drunk drivers as possible and just maybe save a few lives in the process. If you're not breaking the law or driving like an @sshole, then you shouldn't have a problem.

"If you haven't done anything wrong you have nothing to worry about" Whoever says these words are nothing but a tool and deserve to have their "rights" stripped from them. SHEEP

Yes, they get it for both, because the vast majority of traffic citations are pure crap. They have nothing to do with public safety and a lot to do with revenue enhancement. If they're serious about getting drunks off the street let's see them publish statistics that read "several arrests were made for DUI and additionally, several other *warnings* were issued for other minor traffic offenses." Then they'd be believable. But you know as well as I what the numbers look like. A couple of drunks and 4-500 honest citizens jacked up on some BS traffic charge that did nothing but steal yet more money from Kansas' overtaxed residents.
