In Holcomb, Kan., a man is asking local leaders to consider setting up a memorial for the Clutter family, whose murders were recounted in Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood." Next year is the 50th anniversary of the slayings. The man promoting the memorial, Bob Rupp, used to date Nancy Clutter.

[Keith gets out his trusty can opener...and opens this can of worms]
Okay, I hate to ask this. Why? To what end? Who gains what?
The Clutter murders were a shocking, tragic crime. There were 2 surviving daughters, since married, with several children and numerous grandchildren. What do they think?

I agree with Keith the family needs to have input in to this idea. I think if a memorial to the Clutters is respectful and the family agrees it is a good idea.
There is still a strong interest in the case today, even in this area, as one of the suspects was from Edgerton, KS.
Ray at the station in Edg still gets calls regularly from persons researching Hickock.
As many know part of the movie was filmed there and in Olathe.

The Clutters deserve the monument. They were a wonderful family that were taken too soon. I've learned a lot about them lately. I remember when it happened. I was only 9 and it scared me. Anyone know where to donate to the monument?
My nephew Neil Maxwell, was murdered November 22, 2003.

I wish there was a site to donate money to the Clutter memorial. Any tips on that?

I think the best thing would be to get a hold of the surviving family members and if they agree move forward. I would be happy to be involved....great idea!! sfbaird@hotmail.com.

I read the book "In Cold Blood" When I read how they were murdered, my blood ran cold. How could individuals who call themselves human commit such a vicious crime?

ive been reading the book for my english as level as the theme is wasted lives...these murders were an absolutely disgusting crime to such a nice family who never did anyone any harm. I think the remaining family members should have a voice but also remember the voice of bob rupp he was in love with nancy regardless of age and commemorating her and her families lives is all he is trying to do
