Good morning!
Well, my morning started with the breaking news in Germany...
Catholic priest charged with 101 counts of felony including fraud, battery, defalcation etc. At least he´s not a child molester!

Good morning, Mr. Abbott and fellow Costellos. I offer you this distraction from your 401K:
From across the Atlantic: Boss catches thieving employee. Boss marches thief to police station. Boss arrested for false imprisonment. You just have to love those Brits.
The trial of 'Chuckie' Taylor (son of the former Liberian dictator) for torture began yesterday in Miami. The Herald's lede:
I leave it to you to find the irony in this story.Posted by: Keith G. in P.V. | Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 05:34 AM
Good morning all. Happy CSKC meet up day.
Baby you can drive my car...
UPDATE: Victim Tells New Details Of Affair With Teacher. The former junior high teacher who ran to Mexico with a former student was sentenced to six years in prison Monday.
KETV has learned new details on how the relationship between Kelsey Peterson, 26, and the 12-year-old victim started.
In the letter, he stated that Peterson told him “that there was something special” about him. He said that she would "give me love notes after class and sometimes would give me beer and let me drive her car."

UPDATE: Girls taken from Alamo compound remain in DHS custody. Plans are in the works to bring religious leader Tony Alamo back to Arkansas from Arizona. Alamo faces charges of transporting minors across state lines for sexual purposes. In a hearing Friday, a judge ruled that two girls taken from his compound in Fouke will stay in state custody. A hearing for the other four girls involved in this case was called off. Now they too will remain in state custody.
After an eight hour hearing Friday, a judge decided taking two girls from the Tony Alamo Christian Compound in Fouke was the right thing to do.
Former Alamo Church Member Speak Out. For 11 years Pugh was a member of Tony Alamo's Christian Ministries.
She joined when she was only 20, and in a short time Tony Alamo told her she would be marrying Donald Davis, a man 17 years older than she was.
Anna Pugh now lives in rural Oklahoma in fear of Tony Alamo.
She says she left the church after her husband was given a wooden board and ordered to beat her with it because she questioned Alamo's ways.

Good morning, Jungle Jim! Thanks to you and Simone for reminding me how crazy people can be.
Posted by: Keith G. in P.V. | Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 06:45 AM
People are crazy. And everywhere.
Mutilated bodies found in Tijuana. The bodies of 11 men and one woman, some with their tongues cut out, were found dumped in an empty lot next to a Tijuana elementary school Monday morning, an hour before children were scheduled to arrive.
City officials suspended classes after finding the victims, most of whom had been bound and tortured. Some were only partially clothed, said Prisna Perez, state police spokeswoman in Tijuana.
Baja California state attorney General Romel Moreno said that seven of the victims had their tongues cut out. He said a plastic bag containing five human tongues was also found near the bodies. "We're in a war," Moreno told a news conference late Monday. "We're in a constant battle."

State Supremes have such a heavy duty...
SD Supreme Court: Is Profanity Protected? A Brookings man says he should have never been arrested for disorderly conduct after yelling profanities at the police because he's protected by the First Amendment. Now, the South Dakota Supreme Court is considering the argument.
Marcus Suhn was standing on the sidewalk after the bars had closed in downtown Brooking when he began yelling profanities at police cars. He was arrested for disorderly conduct but has appealed to the South Dakota Supreme Court because he said he is protected by the First Amendment.
Suhn yelled the profanities from the sidewalk on Main Street as the patrol cars were passing by, and an attorney for the State of South Dakota argues that the profanities disturbed the peace and were "fighting words," which are not protected by the First Amendment.
UPDATE: Review of nude dancing ruling is sought. The Iowa attorney general's office said Monday that it had asked the Iowa Supreme Court to review a lower court's decision on when nude dancing is an art in Iowa.
In August, a Fremont County judge ruled in favor of an all-nude dancing club owner charged with violating the state's public indecent exposure law after a teenage girl got up on stage and stripped.

Jungle Jim, there's a quote in the South Dakota article that absolutely makes no sense to me. It sounds like the lawyer is arguing against his client. Am I missing something? Did KELO blow the quote?

Good morning Simone, Keith, Jungle.
Going to be a long day, it has already started. Last night's schedules (2 of them anyway), are around 4 to 5 hours behind. Another one is dead in the water until the data base folks fix a problem on their end.
And quarter end does not run until tonight. Need to fire up the coffee tonight!!

Hey Golfer,
sorry to hear you´re going to have a long day today.
Well, I gotta admit that I´m leaving now for my well-earned quitting time. ;-) No complaints - I´m 7 hrs ahead! ;-)
Alright folks, have a very nice day!!!

Good morning, Golfer. I recommend scotch (or the drink of your choice) over coffee. It doesn't help your attentiveness, but it does ease the pain of the situation!

Posted by: Searching | Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at 07:53 AM
Just thought I would pass this on:
Dear Congressman Dennis Moore:
I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It As A Dividend.
To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.
Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child.
So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.
A husband and wife has $595,000.00.
What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.
00 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parents medical insurance – health care improves
Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else
Remember this is for every adult U. S.
Citizen 18+ including the folks
who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company
that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.
If we’re going to redistribute wealth let’s really do it...instead of trickling out
a puny $1000.00 (“vote buy” ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.
If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!
As for AIG – liquidate it.
Sell off its parts.
Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate.
Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.
Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.
Sure it’s a crazy idea that can “never work.
”
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!
How do you spell Economic Boom?
I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC .
And remember, This plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.
5 Billion is returned
instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.
Maybe this is to simple for our congress to comprehend.....but if they received thousands of e-mails like the above, wonder what would happen?
Unforunately Representatives and Senators are voting on "something" this week and I doubt that it will be as good as the above "off the wall" idea (that was passed along to me).

Good morning all!
Searching- I have read that and the math is amazing. Remember when you read it that it is referring to the $85 billion dollar buyout of AIG and NOT the $700 billion dollar number that is floating around. Add another zero to the above numbers to get an idea as to how much money EVERY American could get if $700,000,000,000 were divided up among the 200,000,000 tax paying Americans! STAGGERING!!!!

Um...Searching? Have you checked Dave White's math? Either my calculator is broken or his is.

JoeJoe - It would not only pay off my mortgage, but my Home Equity too. Also get house painted inside and up, update flooring, appliances, new car and still have about 20% left for my daughter's college fund.
Morning Search, James.
How is your day going?

But your right.. so, lets refine.. instead of everyone over 18. lets just go with homeowners and instead of 85 bil.. Lets go with 170 bil... Were still saving 530bil over the current bailout package.. LOL

The OC Register is full of interesting pics today...
Police: 15-month-old baby ingested methamphetamine. Police say a 27-year-old woman endangered her 15-month-old child – the girl tested positive for methamphetamine when taken to the hospital after vomiting.
Tammy Lynn Curtiss pleaded not guilty today to one felony charge of child endangerment.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel is keeping up...
Police: Sex offender at WAMMFest didn't commit a crime. Authorities confirmed Monday that a convicted sex offender was in charge of the children's play area at the annual WAMMFest in San Lorenzo Park during the weekend, but said the woman did not commit a criminal act at the event and no reports of inappropriate behavior have been filed.
"It's just an unfortunate lapse in judgment," Santa Cruz police Capt. Steve Clark said. "It's something we should all be concerned with."
The fact Patricia Babiana Mince, 48, is a registered sex offender surfaced after WAMMFest, an event designed to advocate medical marijuana. The festival drew about 2,500 people Saturday and is organized by the Wo/Men's Alliance for Medical Marijuana.

So to clarify what Keith was first to catch, you would not get $425,000, you would get $425. Again, the difference is ONLY three zeros! Dave White was using a government issued calculator. If you divided $700 Billion by 200 Million taxpayers, each tax payer would get $3,500. But also keep in mind that this money to fund such a plan is paid for by tax payers.
The Economist has spoken.

N.Y. Judge Says Ladies' Night Isn't Biased. It's closing time for a lawsuit alleging ladies' nights at nightclubs discriminate against men.
Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum tossed the lawsuit out of federal court in Manhattan on Monday. She said city nightclubs can price their products as they wish because they're not acting as representatives of the state.
The lawsuit was brought by Roy Den Hollander, an attorney who has crusaded against feminism and recently sued a university over its women's studies program.

The Non-Bailout Bailout Plan:
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00.
With Enron, you would have $16.50 left of the original $1000.
With WorldCom, you would have less than $5.00 left.
If you had purchased $1000.00 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49.00 left.
If you had purchased United Airlines, you would have nothing left.
But, if you had purchased $1000.00 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for recycling, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle. This is called the 401-Keg Plan.
