1 man dead after shooting in Independence
A family disagreement ended in gunfire in Independence early today, leaving a 40-year-old man dead and his girlfriend’s son in custody.
Police Sgt. John Bullard said two women flagged down a Kansas City police sergeant around 1:30 a.m. near Truman Road and White Avenue in Kansas City. An Independence police officer, noticing that the women were hysterical, also pulled over. The women were driving the shooting victim to the hospital. Bullard said one of the women was the victim’s girlfriend and the other was a friend of the victim’s.
Police later learned that the man been shot in the 10100 block of Golf Avenue.
The victim’s identity has not been released. The suspect, a 21-year-old Independence man, is expected to be charged today.
