Four Salem, Mo., motorists went to hospitals tonight after a wreck that started with a pickup hitting a cow.
The wreck happened about 5:45 p.m. on Missouri 32 just west of Salem. After hitting the cow, the driver lost control, crossed the center line and crashed into another pickup head-on, according to a preliminary report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The men in the first pickup, ages 33 and 64, suffered moderate injuries. They were wearing seat belts.
In the second pickup, a 43-year-old man suffered moderate injuries and a 10-year-old girl suffered minor injuries. They weren't buckled up, according to the patrol's report.
(The report didn't say what became of the cow...)

George Nelson: Cows! I hate cows worse than coppers
Delmar O'Donnell: Oh, George... not the livestock.

You seek a great fortune, you three who are now in chains. You will find a fortune, though it will not be the one you seek. But first... first you must travel a long and difficult road, a road fraught with peril. Mm-hmm. You shall see thangs, wonderful to tell. You shall see a... a cow... on the roof of a cotton house, ha. And, oh, so many startlements. I cannot tell you how long this road shall be, but fear not the obstacles in your path, for fate has vouchsafed your reward. Though the road may wind, yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye follow them, even unto your salvation.
