From Russ Pulley: Lafayette County authorities have identified the body of a headless, handless man discovered near Concordia as a missing Raytown man.
The victim is 29-year-old Monteze E. Murrell. Authorities identified him though a DNA profile developed from the body. Murrell was reported missing to the Raytown Police Department on June 9.
Evidence at the scene, along with findings from the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, indicated that a homicide occurred elsewhere and someone disposed of the body in rural Lafayette County.
Concentrating on Kansas City area missing persons that matched the general description led investigators to the victim’s identity. Authorities matched a DNA profile made from Murrell’s toothbrush by the Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory to a DNA profile of the body developed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Laboratory in Jefferson City.
