This is more of a film-nerd story than anything: Del Toro is the guy who made the "Hellboy" movies, as well as "Pan's Labyrinth" and other good stuff. He's a native Mexican, but he refuses to film there anymore, ever since his dad was the victim of kidnappers a few years ago. (Dad was later released.) Mexico has one of the highest kidnapping rates in the world.

It's funny that he only has a problem with the kidnapping when it got close to home. He apparently didn't care much over the last 100+ years that this has been going on like crazy in Mexico.
It's that whole it's okay as long as it doesn't happen to me that I find funny. In a sad sort of way.
