Greg Hawley had the misfortune to be driving on I-70 when two other people happened to be drag-racing Saturday, police say. One of the racers lost control and collided with Hawley's truck, killing him. (The drag-racing suspects, of course, escaped serious injury.)
Hawley, his dad and his brother were the leading force behind the excavation of the Steamboat Arabia, which was buried in a cornfield. Their discoveries were the basis of a museum that continues to operate today in City Market.

A speeding racer just killed FIVE people outside of Houston in Montgomery County..Of course, the driver was the only one that lived...I am so sick of watching people speeding/racing down our roads, endangering the lives of everyone around them.

What a loss. And all for what? Showing off?

This is vehicular homocide. Not that it matter, but it doesn't say if the BMW driver was injured or not. He should lose his freedom for an unspecified period of time.

Nemesis,
If you read the article it says that other than Hawley, no other injuries were reported. My sympathies and condolences go out to the Hawley family.
However, while I know this may be hard for them to hear, but the article also states that Hawley was ejected from his vehicle. This rarely happens if one is wearing one's seatbelt.
Please, everyone, wear your seatbelt, even if just taking a very short drive. If an accident occurs it will most probably save your life and/or prevent injury.

The BMW racer and fellow racer should be imprisoned for a long time. No doubt there will be a civil suit. Tragic and senseless loss!!

The driver of the BMW was a teenager. I pray that rich parents don't shield the kid from receiving the harshest possible punishment.
I just met Greg Hawley two weeks ago during a tour of the museum; he seemed like the kind of person the world needs more of. This loss is tragic.

Sad. I have been to the Arabia numerous times. Greg was a fantastic person. Really friendly and would talk to anyone after his speech during the tour.

That is my opinion too, the racer's should be put in prison.
JB, ya been there a few time?
Just how many times can a person look at door knobs & other misc. hardware?
The process to get the "stuff" is what I find amazing, not so much with what was found. Also goes to show, just how the landscape can change in a relatively short amount of time.

jewwellsP, the restoration process is ongoing and will be for at least 15 years, so the exhibit grows and changes as time goes on.
