From KCPD: Five more intersections have been selected to have red light cameras installed by the end of March. Those locations are:
- W. 79th Street and Wornall Road
- E. 63rd Street and Prospect Avenue
- 39th and Main streets
- E. 19th and Walnut streets
- 27th Street and Southwest Trafficway.

Pigs stuffing their pockets with citizen's money. As usual. At least they're not shooting grandmothers or beating handcuffed suspects today.

They've already filed a lawsuit stating that the cameras are unconstitutional. The city is circumventing the state by charging fines for a moving violation but not taking away points and something about having to prove who was driving the car.

The 79th & Wornall will be a big producer!
Why waste the money on 63rd & Prospect? Not only is there not much traffic through there, the admin costs will out weigh any money collected. Want to guess how many tickets issued will just result in warrants being issued? All of this costs money, maybe just set a officer at the intersection. The payoff would be much greater.

If they are going to install them at 27th & SW Trafficway, they also need to improve the sensors/timing for off-peak timing. I have waited in excess of 5 minutes for a light change after leaving a friend's home on the West Side, trying to turn left onto the approach to I-35.

Not if the MO bill banning red light cameras passes. Contact your local rep.

If it isn't about the money, why doesn't the city agree to donate the profits to a fund to help accident victims?

Let's see. Should we wait to find out if these are going to be constitutional or even banned by statute within the year. Nawww, let's just fork out the cash and worry about the consequences later.
This wasn't, by any chance, a Cauthen plan, was it?

I spoke with Councilman Russ Johnson and he said that Cathy Jolly (the only lawyer on the council) was the one who crafted this legislation.
Mr. Johnson also informed me that the council rarely reads what is sent to them, as they 'count on the other people to know what they are doing'.
I know that I will not be running any red lights in KC, I won't speed or park on the wrong side of the street.
I also will not be making any big purchases in KC and am looking forward to moving out of city limits this summer. I want as little of my money as possible to go to the city.
They've been corrupt and crooked since at LEAST the Pendergast days...

My next door neighbor was killed by someone running a red light 2 years ago and they fled the scene. Would the camera help catch the guy? Maybe...
But even though I hate the big brother aspect of the red light cameras, my bigger issue is do they really improve public safety? At least some studies so NO.
And yes, if the city would retime their lights like they were supposed to not so many people would run them. Plus the environmental factors of cars idleing for no reason. KC got in trouble for their polution levels last year...

I have seen more radar - packing KCMOPD the past few days after the City announced its
budget deficit. The other day, I saw some
motorcycle radar revenue agent in a KCMOPD uniform at a QuikTrip complaining that business was slow and he was cold.
KCMOPD has ceased being a law enforcement agnecy and have become CITY REVENUE AGENTS!
Chief Corwin and his cronies in the traffic unit are now working on a commission!

the lights on walnut around that traffic area are incredibly awful. i don't condone running them anyway, but when there are NO cars for minutes at a time, something needs to be addressed. at least realise that there is more north / south traffic on that road than ever crosses it.

79th and Wornall is not that busy of an intersection. Much more than a camera, they need to put in a turn arrow. Problem with people running the light solved!
And the police station is less than a mile from 63rd and Prospect. That's a complete waste.

I'm just amazed listening to you all. Driving is not your right, its a privilege given to you. So your not losing any rights in having the cameras. If your not a red light runner then why are you worrying about it anyway. Maybe it will save your life sometime. I count at least 4 to 5 stop light and stop sign runners a day going to and from work. Most lights in this city you only have to wait a minute or so and it changes. So I wonder what timing issues most of you complain about. And frankly, I'm waiting for the law to make it illegal to use your phone or text messaging while driving. Now that's the law that would do some good.
