From Independence PD: At 2:42 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, Independence Police received a call that shots had been fired in the area of Benton Park in Independence.
Officers responded and discovered there had been an apparent disturbance between 2 groups of young men and at least 2 people had been shot. One of the individuals who had been shot was transported to the hospital for treatment of an apparently non-life threatening wound. The other person who was shot is deceased.
Independence Detectives are working the incident and it is an on going investigation at this time. No further information regarding this case is expected to be released until early next week.
