A judge on Monday ordered Leroy Green III to be bound over for trial on charges of rape and aggravated indecent liberties with two children.
Green III, who is the son of Wyandotte County Sheriff Leroy Green Jr., will have a second preliminary hearing on May 11 for eight similar counts with two other children. Authorities allege that he raped or fondled four children who were under age 14 at the time.
Sheriff Green, who is up for re-election next week, has said that although he runs the county jail, he will not be responsible for his son’s custody. The duty falls to Undersheriff Rick Mellott and others.
