Mud, police foil burglary at Northland construction site

From Bob Cronkleton:

Three would-be thieves didn’t get far after mud slowed their attempt to steal a skid-steer loader overnight from a Northland construction site.

Police arrested three people after the skid-steer loader got stuck in the mud. The suspects had abandoned the stuck construction equipment, but police were able to track down the suspects after they left a ramp down on the trailer they were towing and it left scrape marks in the street, according to police.

Officers followed the scuff marks and found the trailer nearby. Shortly thereafter, police found the men’s empty truck. After a police dog was called in, officers found the men hiding in a nearby field.
