Starting in July, Kansas will allow prosecutors to carry weapons in the state's courtrooms -- though judges and county commissions can opt out of the new provision. Shawnee County is trying to decide what it will do. I've got calls out to Johnson and Wyandotte counties right now.
UPDATED: I just heard back from Johnson County. Attorneys will NOT be allowed to carry guns in the courthouse. In fact, if I understand correctly, not all law-enforcement officers get to carry weapons there -- only ones trained in courthouse security procedures.
