From Christine: Police cited a KCTV5 news reporter for driving under the influence after she crashed into a Lincoln Town Car stopped on West 39th Street near Baltimore Avenue about 2:40 a.m. Friday.
Betsy Webster’s car struck the Town Car from behind, causing minor injuries to the Town Car’s driver and a man standing next to it. According to a police report, an officer noted a “strong” odor of alcohol on Webster, 38, who failed several field sobriety tests and refused to take a breath test.
Hat Tip: Many thanks, Keith G in PV!

KCTV reports:
One local reporter gets drunk and rear ends old man. Find out more tonight at 10.

This will be as interesting to watch as the Star's coverage of Rhonda Chriss Lokeman (Zieman)! Whatever happened to her court case? Is it still pending?

As they say on KCTV,
"Live, late breaking, investigative" but apparently not by Besty Webster cuz she's too drunk & busy rear ending cars...LOL

Well it was late and she was breaking...something. But not braking, I guess.

I hate KCTV.

So DUI's are given out everyday, why bring attention to this person?
Posted by: Jimbo-bob | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 08:39 AM
LIVE...LATE BREAKING....INVESTIGATIVE...

D-man, thats funny, oh they irritate the hell out of me with all their hype about a story, and then tell you to watch at 10:00 or tomorrow night or whatever. I quit watching KCTV5 news.
Posted by: spicolli | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 09:02 AM
I watch KCTV5 just because it's the news on after the shows I watch so. It is funny though.
Jimbo-bob because she's a public figure and a reporter to boot. So basically we think it's hilarious that a news reporter is making the news for DUI. And the fact that she could do a story on herself now haha.

I think shes hot. She can come over to my house for cocktails tonight and not have to worry about driving home until tomorrow.

She's 38? Wow. Hard years.
She has the worst hair style on TV.
You'd drink to if you had to handle these hard hitting investigative stories.
Posted by: GTD | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10:07 AM
This will be her chance to write a feat. story on herself..Make it a three part ,from getting arrested to court, and rehab...She'll then win an emmy and save her job.
Posted by: andre3000 | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10:28 AM
She most likely just put her job in jeopardy. Something tells me that a news person who becomes a news story is not what her tv station desires.
Posted by: Johnkel | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10:56 AM
But, will her co-workers be outside her home tomorrow when she leaves for work, thrusting microphones in her face and bombarding her with questions to make her look like the world's worst mass murderer? Somehow I don't think will see her get the same treatment the way they ambush other poeple that might be accused of wrongdoing.

Good to see ole Betsy-Wetsy taken down a notch.

Maybe Katie Horner can keep us updated "ad nauseum" about the location of Betsy Webster. Radar, zone forcasting, and helicopter live shots. That should keep us terrified when the weather can't.

Let's see how the self-righteous KCTV -5 staff handles this one... they are always quick to condemn innocent police officers and conservative Christains. I find the journalistism profession to be a notch above politics and lawyers, but below prostitutes!!

I have to agree with JUNGLE JIM - I'm quite tired of the ambush-style scapegoating practiced by several local media outlets (and KCTV5 in particular) on citizens without the resources to fight back. (like the speeding bus driver they got fired just last week)
A clear case of chickens coming home to roost in my opinion. So when do we see someone stick a microphone in her face and demand an act of public contrition?
Posted by: Realist | Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 12:11 PM
Thank you, Realist. I've said often on this blog they should change it to Live, Late-breaking, INTRUSIVE!
(You would expect this kind of thing from a reporter named Heather Staggers, but nobody named Betsy does a thing like this.)

She can report live from local happy hour watering holes. Maybe do a try it before you buy it about wines and mixed drinks.

What's the standard punishment? License suspension, jail time, six month DUI class, mandatory MADD meetings, community service, ignition breathalyzer, probation, fines and court costs(on top of lawyer defense fees, higher SR22 insurance rates for three years.
After all that you need depression counseling too.
And some people want to have harsher punishments.
What a hateful society we have become

Yeah, thanks Keith G in PV! You're on your way to being a junior reporter here!
Your selective investigating will get you far at the Star!

In my opinion, most certifications (i.e. Microsoft, A+, etc.) are useless pieces of paper that, at most, show somebody spent some time scanning through books or sample tests and can regurgitate answers to questions that might appear on a "certification" exam.
Hands-on industry experience is far more valuable and useful in the real world. It proves (1) that you indeed possess sufficient knowledge of a given topic/technology, and, (2) if you are confronted with a problem or situation in which you lack expertise, you are resourceful enough to obtain (whether it be via colleagues, reading manuals, conducting web research, calling vendor support, etc.) the information necessary to arrive at an effective solution.
