There are 26 police departments that won't get one thin dime from the federal stimulus program because they broke the rules under the last federal COPS program. (Not sure if you remember COPS -- it was a Clinton-era program where the feds helped pay salaries for local cops.)
USA Today has a list of the violators, and there's one from our region: Hardin, Mo. (Located in Ray County.) If cities hired new cops using a COPS grant, they were supposed to keep them on the payroll at least one year after the federal money ran out. Hardin didn't do that.
