"She was on a mission"

Last year, a man named Robert Abner kidnapped a convenience-store clerk near Viola, Kan., and sexually assaulted her over the course of four days -- until, moved by her family's pleas on TV, he released her. He was found guilty yesterday, The Eagle says.

The story tells how the victim worked to get Abner convicted, testifying for three hours about the ordeal -- despite accusations from the defense attorney that, well, she must have liked it since she didn't try to escape.

I like how the victim's husband puts it:

Asked what he meant by "on a mission," Larry Patterson said that during his wife's abduction, "She promised herself if she got out of that, she was going to make sure he paid for what he had done."
