Gunfire takes innocent woman's life on 71 Highway

This is disgusting. KCPD says a Lawrence woman, driving her teenage daughter and mother-in-law home from Starlight, was killed by a stray bullet. I wonder if the shooter actually was aiming at ANYBODY or if it was just some ignoramus firing his gun in the air, for fun. With the number of random gunfire calls, though, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

From KCPD: The woman killed last night has been identified as Deanna Lieber white/female 10/26/1963, of Lawrence, Kansas.

The victim (driver) was traveling home to Lawrence with her 13 year. old daughter (front passenger) and mother in-law (back seat). They had just attended a show at Starlight Theater. It appears she was struck by the random gunfire that had been reported in the area. Calls about the shots came from as far away as 59th and Walrond. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline.

Hubby and I had season tickets last year for Starlight. We didn't do it again this year and after this...I doubt we ever go again.
KC Metro is becoming a war zone. This just encourages us to stay in the Burbs, at least until the crime spreads there too.
Is there any question as to why people are getting weapons and CCW. It is called self protection and in cases like this one...not even that can help.

aka: Homicide Highway

It had been a while since we'd had a homicide right on 71, but for a while there, 146 is right -- people were regularly getting shot on a major highway running right through Kansas City.

Maybe KCPD should have had a DWI checkpoint in the area since thats the best they can do to fight crime and this type of behavior. OH thats right, KCPD doesn't know how to fight crime.
