Sailor shot while standing sentry

His family believes it was a hate crime because of the sailor's race and sexual orientation, but the investigation continues.

This happened Tuesday at Camp Pendleton. He was shot execution style, and whoever did it burned the surrounding area to cover up any evidence.

OK, my first thought was yea he probably was killed due to his sexual orientation. But I'm sure I just read that the investigaion is showing that no matter who it was standing there, they would of been killed. That tells me it's something else. So again false claims are made before an investigation is complete.

If he was killed due to his sexual orientation, this is a clear case of why "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is a worthwhile policy. Some people just cannot stand the thought of homosexual/bi-sexuals in the military (or around them at all) and they will do anything to stop them. Am I saying the policy is right? No, I'm not. But it certainly would have been one less motive to look into, one less reason for someone to dislike him.

My heart goes out to his friends and family--he was not killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, but on American soil, on a Marine base, while standing watch! They probably felt he could not have been safer. Truly tragic.

Their nephew was murdered and right away they assume it was because he was a black bi-sexual...sounds like they're the ones who are prejudiced.
