Belton man charged in weird assault case

A Belton man named Gary L. Hilliard, 40, is accused of kidnapping and assault in Cass County. Specifically, prosecutors say, Hilliard appeared at a party back in May where he allegedly pulled a 16-year-old boy from his vehicle and beat him, possibly with a baseball bat, The Belton Star-Herald reports.

Authorities say Hilliard then took the teen to another location, where he intended to force the boy to apologize to an unnamed for a December 2008 incident in Stockton, Mo. The teen was supposed to stay in Hilliard's vehicle while he fetched the unnamed party, but the teen instead ran and got help, police say. (He apparently left blood on one door that he banged on.)

Officers saw blood on that front door, then observed blood on Hilliard’s arm when he was contacted at a neighboring residence, according to the probable cause statement.

Hilliard reportedly told officers he had cut himself, but the report indicated there were no visible wounds on his arms.

Hat Tip: Many thanks, D-Man!
