Have I mentioned I hate PETA yet today? Man this makes me hungary for seal.

I can’t decide if PETA is an animal rights group or some dorky comedy troupe.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:08 AM
Too bad they weren't allowed to stay in the road longer...
Posted by: ak | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:13 AM
Ah PETA, People that Eternally Take Acid.

Freaking Tragedy.

People who oppose PETA should at least know how to spell their vile comments correctly. The seal slaughter is the most disgraceful and unnecessary form of animal abuse and that should be the issue that makes people angry. Spewing anti-PETA hatred shows a total disregard for humans (hoping someone gets runover? Come on!) and animals.
Posted by: Phyllis | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:42 AM
These people have lost their connection with their fellow human beings. They connect more with animals than with humans.
They believe animals should have the same rights as humans.
They see humans as evil and barbaric.
They see animals as poor, helpless victims of human corruption and tyranny.
They believe all livestock and pets should be released.
Everyone should be like them, VEGAN.
They are no better than terrorists.

Jellybean you stole my post.
Posted by: cripjak | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:52 AM
Seriously, though, like PETA or not (I don't), the seal slaughter's pretty awful.
Posted by: Johns | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:56 AM
We should all take turns clubbing this costume clad idiot...not because he looks like a seal...but because he is a PETA fool.
Why doesn't PETA help feed the animals. Jump into a lion or polar bear cage. Then they would be good for something.
Posted by: ghost | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:56 AM
Saw on the TV news this morning (not PETA, but like minded goofballs) have a billboard protesting the deer cull in Shawnee Mission Park.
Posted by: Elrond of Rivendell | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:03 PM
Saw that too, Elrond. I say kill all the damn deer. They cause more auto accidents and eat more farmers' crops in a calendar year than you and I could ever fathom.
I'm not going to comment on the seal protest, other than to say...idiots.
Posted by: Tam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:08 PM
@Phyllis “total disregard for humans”
Like when PETA subjugate females by having them prancing around half dressed and/or nude to protest animal abuse. Using females and the female form in exploitative or abusive situations to try to encourage us to care about animal welfare makes you no better than the people/organizations you protest.
Phyllis you say you want to protect animals from abuse and exploitation why don’t you start you’re your own membership rolls.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:10 PM
I kind of like it whe PETA sends out scantily clad women to push their agenda on the rest of us.
I laugh at them, because they've been manipulated by the PETA folks, and they're pathetic.
But they're fun to look at, in a "look at the funny chimpanzee at the zoo" sort of way.
Posted by: Elrond of Rivendell | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:39 PM
I can't say I've ever clubed a PETA member, but I did pull my car right out in front of a couple of ACLU lawyers riding their bikes the other day. Banged em up pretty good. Not a joke. That is, at least my insurance company didn't think it was very funny anyway.
Posted by: Sasquach | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:39 PM
Did you know they were ACLU lawyers before you pulled out in front of them?
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 12:43 PM
Personally, I like the fact that every one of these phony PETA protesters are wearing leather shoes. HIPOCRITES!!!

What a bunch of ignorant backwoods people you are.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 01:41 PM
"What a bunch of ignorant backwoods people you are."
Better that than to be a member of PETA. Ignorant self-important snobs who beleive anyone who doesn't believe as they do are "ignorant backwoods people."
Being open-minded means being able to accept that others points of view, despite not being in lockstep with yours, are equally valid.
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 01:50 PM
"What a bunch of ignorant backwoods people you are." Sad the guy dressed as a baby seal laying in the middle of the street.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 01:55 PM
@Jane
No. My insurance company told me they were lawyers who worked in an office together right by the law firm I just started working at. Made me about crap my pants worrying about whether or not I just ran over one of my firm's equity partners. Googled them and found out they were ACLU. Turns out one of them is also an advocate for bicycle friendly laws as well. Oops. I'm just glad they weren't personal injury attorney's. Or baby seals for that matter.
Posted by: Sasquach | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 02:27 PM
Gomez, points of view don't have to be in lockstep with mine. But here is a sampling of the ignorance:
They are no better than terrorists.
We should all take turns clubbing this costume clad idiot.
I say kill all the damn deer.
I did pull my car right out in front of a couple of ACLU lawyers riding their bikes the other day. Banged em up pretty good.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 02:40 PM
Well Sam,
I agree that PETA resorts to forms of terrorist coercion to try to force people to adopt their belief system.
And frankly, I agree with the planned deer culling at Shawnee Mission Park.
Am I an ignorant backwoods person because of those points of view?
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 02:55 PM
Sam
"I did pull my car right out in front of a couple of ACLU lawyers riding their bikes the other day. Banged em up pretty good."
I don't think this is "ignorance." It's just a statement of fact. I did, in fact, pull right out in front of them, and they did, in fact, get banged up.
As for the other 3 statement:
-the first one is boarderline true. PETA members have caused more than a little property damage to advance their agenda, and even firebombed the residence of someone they considered to be an offender as recently as this year.
-the second one is merely a statement of opinion regarding the treatment of a bona fide twit.
-the third one has been the opinion of more than a few farmers who's crops have been devistated by overprotected deer populations.
I find your definition of ignorance to be ignorant.
Posted by: Sasquach | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:09 PM
I wonder what seal tastes like. And does it taste even better when "tenderized"?
Posted by: D-man | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:13 PM
It’s much more humane to let the deer starve this winter, be hit by cars, or become diseased because of over population.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:15 PM
You may be confusing them with ALF, or just misguided individuals. PETA doesn't do terrorism. It's like saying the GOP kills abortion doctors.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:23 PM
Poor deer, we know what's best for them. Lets shoot them and mount their heads on the wall. It's what Jesus would do.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:30 PM
Jesus would probably do that. I don’t recall anything stating Jesus was a vegetarian.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:38 PM
I guess deer dying a slow death from broken legs on the side of the road, deer staving to death because there isn’t enough vegetation to sustain a herd that large, or the whole herd dying because disease was able to spread easily through the weakened herd, is better than a bullet to the head?
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:45 PM
Well, in my mind, throwing blood (or a reasonable facsimile theref) on someone's white fur coat is a mild form of terrorism.
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:58 PM
I have a real hard time using your name when starting an argument/discussion with you, Sam. That's my husbands name...
Anyhoo, I will.
Are you stupid?
I didn't say anything about mounting a deer head on the wall, and I certainly didn't bring Jesus into the equation.
I did however say I wanted them ALL dead. I still do. You won't change how I feel about that. Do you live in the country, or anywhere that deer populations are a severe problem? Do you garden? Do you drive? Do you farm?
I do.
So, shut your mouth.
Posted by: Tam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 03:58 PM
Well Sam,
What's your solution to the deer overpopulation problem in Shawnee Mission Park?
Obviously you don't think culling the herd is the right thing to do for the deer.
The herd's health is at stake. They've surpassed a healthy population.
Never mind eating people's flowers. I couldn't care less about that.
What are you going to do to keep the herd healthy?
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:03 PM
1. I don't know any PETA employees who wear leather shoes. Pleather, maybe.
2. PETA has never "firebombed" anything or anyone.
3. The annual seal slaughter is disgraceful, unnecessary, and barbaric. Seals feel the exact same pain that your pet dogs and cats do, and I know you'd be upset if someone was clubbing them for their fur, right?
4. Those "scantily clad women" are PETA employees who volunteer themselves for a greater cause. They believe in getting silly attention in order to get everyone thinking about the serious underlying issues (like the seal slaughter, for instance).
5. PETA got press on a really serious issue and now all of you are talking about it on the internet. Mission accomplished.
Posted by: sherry | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:08 PM
I agree that throwing blood (or a reasonable facsimile theref) on someone's white fur coat is a mild form of terrorism. And there is the common ground. I have no solution, other than letting nature take its course.
Jane: sorry but you seem pathological and there is no point in talking to you.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:13 PM
Scantily clad women = Gets people thinking about serious issues.
Mission accomplished? They are still clubing seals and the deer herd will be culled.
Unless all you wanted is attention yep you got that done. Did anything change? NOPE!
But thanks for admitting what we already knew. PETA and its members are attention whores who really don’t want to change anything.
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:18 PM
PETA has never firebombed anything? What about Ron Coronado? What about Joshua Harper?
Why does PETA use it funds to support ELF (Earth Liberation Front).
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:28 PM
@Sam Jane: sorry but you seem pathological and there is no point in talking to you.
Funny after you made this statement: "What a bunch of ignorant backwoods people you are."
Posted by: Jane | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:31 PM
"I have no solution, other than letting nature take its course."
QED
You have no solution.
Yet you believe killing a percentage of the deer to have a more healthy herd, less likely to succumb to some disease or starvation, is morally deplorable.
Dead, rotting deer in Shawnee Mission Park is your morally superior solution?
OK, we humans, in large part, caused the problem. Housing and developments have removed habitat and long ago chased away their natural predators. You know, the ones that used to keep the herd in check by killing off a bunch of them?
Also, in our desire to improve the once-decimated population, conservation efforts (funded by hunters, not PETA or any so-called conservation organization) have been almost too successful.
The answer? Humans need to take the place of the deer's natural predators (hey, we're predators too, right...that's why we have canine teeth and our eyes on the front of our heads) and kill off some of the deer population.
But that's morally abhorrent to you. Yet you admit you have no better solution.
PETA is a bunch of hypocrites and mslleable mental midgets.
You're a fraud.
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:34 PM
Oops, that would be malleable.
Fat fingers.
Posted by: Gomez Adams | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 04:41 PM
Not only that, but deer chili tastes good. I eat vegetarian at every meal, deer, cows, etc... are herbivores (hence vegetarian.)
Posted by: Drasil | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 05:30 PM
So is PETA going to start killing the whales and polar bears that eat the seals? Or the lions that maim hyenas? or the dog that kills the cat/squirrel/rabbit?
Posted by: Chuck Rizzo | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 05:54 PM
I'm pretty sure that whales don't eat seals. As far as the rest of your argument... ok, why even bother.
Posted by: Sam | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 06:08 PM
You may not like PETA but at least they are against killing these seals who are skinned alive. Can you all at least say that your against this too! I hope you are!
GOOD FOR PETA FOR DOING SOMETHING TO BRING ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE!
You have my blessing and keeping fighting for these little baby seals. PETA,good job!
Posted by: SASHA | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 06:11 PM
Hmmm, I wonder what would have happened if PETA had tryed to save the dinosaurs? I would love to see them try convincing a T-Rex not to eat a Brontosaurus.
How about talking a Lion into not eating a Gazelle?
How about talking a Wolf into not eating an Elk?
Sam/Sasha, I think you see where I am going with this. Humans are omnivores (that means we can eat damn near anything that grows or moves.) Vegan/Vegetarian diets are unnatural because they force us to seek alternatives that are not naturally occurring. (And dietary supplements don't occur in nature.) If you like to feel morally superior to us meat-eaters, well good for you. Just don't expect me to join you.
Oh, by the way, clubbing seals is distasteful, but so what? We do worse things to one another in todays screwed up society.
Posted by: Drasil | Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 06:36 PM
Club PETA members, not baby seals.
